This thread reminded me that I still haven't taken the one I bought in March out of the box...

I really need to get a job that allows me to spend more (i.e. > 0) time in the workshop...

Today I went to Woodcraft and checked out the Rikon BS ($149.99), I then went to Sears and checked the Craftsman ($99.99). It was a no brainer, the Craftsman wins hands down so I brought one home.

I'm really glad that a lot of you are jumping on this deal. I got mine the last time it was on sale @ $99.00 and I'm sure glad I did. It's a great little BS and others of the same size don't even compare to it. Sure, the blade size is a little unconventional so I grabbed the 3 pack blade set when I bought it.

I don't use it all that much, so the blades will last me for years I'm sure.

Just ordered mine. Been wondering what to reward myself with after putting in laminate flooring last week for the wife.

Now to figure out when to use the thing. Being new to woodworking, I'm only familiar with circular saws, hand saws and jig saws. I recently got a table saw, router, drill press and now a band saw.

Thanks for the comment. Cutting Curves.... I did my push block with a jig saw but I guess I have something better now.

Thanks for the heads up, my local store had two and I got one for $99 Now I can Craigslist my 16" Delta 3 wheel, #28-560.

And can I get my 16" Makitia resaw project started.

My shop did not have space for two large bandsaws.

I almost bought one but the 4 5/8" resaw capacity that Loring, noted, makes me think what I would do with it and how often; you can not cut a 6" width which is a very common cut. I have a 14" Ridgid w. riser but thought this might be a good portable. The price also went up last night even though it said onsale thru 8/11.

                            Craftsman 10 " bandsaw $99 model 21400

Looks like a Rikon Model # 10-300. Owners manual & parts manual are on Rikon's web site.

It sure looks like the Rikon but a major difference is that the Craftsman weighs more than 20 lbs more. The Craftsman looks to have a nicer table and comes with a fence. The better cast iron table may account for most of the weight increase and will contribute to better stability in a tool that size. At this point I don't really care who makes it [some factory in China anyhow] but it works well.
