It's really a moot point if the tools work properly but I gotta say that Hitachi makes some butt ugly looking tools.

That seems to be a good deal for a 2+ hp with both bases. Those who have used it / own it : how's it's performance and handling?

I have the Skil, and hate the plunge router. No, I HATE it. To plunge, you need to unlock each and every time, the plunge-distance is not easy to measure/set, and overall it's a tedious job.

I have had this very router, plunge and fixed base for a couple of years. It works very well. I have used it to make raised panel doors in hard maple (several passes of course with a vertical bit). The only down side is the PITA process of changing bits, it takes two wrenches. I use it in a router table with the plunge base, springs removed. Still going strong. Plenty of power. One good thing about Hitachi is the 5 year warranty.

I have this kit a few years. I'd agree with RAGS that about the only down side is changing bits. Another good thing about this router is that it is relativly quiet. I thought it was a good deal when I got mine for $135.

Shame on me, I paid $169! Agree it is relatively quiet but of course still wear hearing protection.

Just ordered one (on LOML's account even!)

                  Practically a steal at 115.

                    Edge guide?

Does anybody have an edge guide for this router? Some of the reviews on Amazon said they could not find one.

Amazon does suggest this Skil 91801 Deluxe Router Edge Guide in the Accessories section. Can anyone confirm it will work with the Hitachi? This guide looks very cheaply made though...

                    Thanks!

Older PC (850 ??) edge quides work on this router.

How about trying PC 690's edge guide? The base is the same pattern. I have one at home. I will try it tonite/tommorrow and let you know. I have the PC690 and the hitachi KM12VC routers.

This router is compatible with all P-C accessories for 690 line. Nothing is easier than finding a guide (or any other accesory for it). I have a single speed version of the same router ( for hand use only, I have a big router in a table) - it is very comfortable.
