    Palmgren 13" planer blades

Just an FYI since I know several people on the forum bought this planer awhile back and blade availability is a little questionable. I bought two sets through Amazon of the Craftsman type blades that supposedly fit but didn't. A gent on Woodnet has spent some time and effort setting up a buy with a third party to do what might be a one time production. The prices aren't great but better than otherwise is available. I ordered up 5 sets since I figure when those are gone, I'll want to be upgrading anyway. The post for ordering is in the Woodnet Swap and Sale forum. The prices include shipping.

    1 set for $29.90
    2 sets for $50.90
    3 sets for $71.90
    4 sets for $92.90
    5 sets for $113.90

    Any info about the 12 1/2 model - 84112??

    Good info!

I bought the Palmgren 84112 1/2 inch model. Does anyone know if blades are still available for it? I don't need any yet but also want to plan ahead. I have not tried contacting Palmgren yet. It seems odd that they can not supply blades for their planers as most companies keep a supply of such for a period of time after an item is discontinued or make arrangements to have such parts available.

    Thanks, Steve

That's the same planer as the Craftsmen #21758. You should be able to get the knives #21770 from Sears for some time.

Thanks for that on the Sears #21758 but are you sure it is the same model?? The reason I ask is that I had heard that and when in a Sears store a while back I checked the #21758 out and it looked very similar but was not the same. For example the 84112 rides up and down on four threaded rods [inside the tubes] - one in each corner while the Sears #21758 rides up and down on two threaded rods - one in the middle of each side. That would be great if they do use the same blades.

        Thanks again, Steve

Not 100% sure, I remember reading about it on the woodnet forums I believe.

            Thanks Andy.

What I will do sometime is to buy a set of blades for the Craftsman planer. It would be easy enough to compare to the Palmgren ones without taking them out of the packaging so that I could get a refund if they do not match. I emailed Palmgren earlier in the day yesterday but have not heard back from them yet.

            Thanks, Steve
