Jet Parallel Clamp Set (4)- $115 & Free shipping - good deal?

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

Do you guys think this is a good deal to jump on? Seems to be a steal since the 24" are $48/each.

I think Jet clamps are all I'm going to buy going forward after a few things I've read (comments from users vs Bessey K?)

Great clamps. Buying in sets is the only way to go, Bessey or Jet.

This is an ok deal. Rockler has had the set on "sale" for $99 so often it has pretty much became the normal price.

Jets are superior. However my lowest price on Bessey Kit has been $62 and I'd buy them all day over the Jet at $100. But for even money the Jets rule.

What do you like about the Jets over Bessey, Jeffrey? Or is there a post somewhere on it?

Jets have a larger clamping area. They have a better clutch system, they have the bar measured out so you can setup the clamp easier, thay have the option to use the included bench dogs.... That's all I can think of at the top of my head.

I have some Jorgensen parallel clamps bought second hand from Craigslist and I've been pleased enough with them. 4-48 inchers for $20 apiece. I also have four each of the HF aluminum bar clamps in 24, 36 and 60 inch lengths and have found them quite handy for building cabinets and drawers (essentially boxes).

$115 for the Jet Set is very close to the same price as the recent sale of the Gross Stabil clamps of the same size. By the time you add shipping to the Gross Stabil purchase, it may be a dead heat.

The Jets have been reviewed as the superior parallel clamp in competition with the Gross Stabil, Stanley, Bessey, Woodcraft and HF. Woodcraft parallel clamps were judged as Best Value but at $115, the Jets even trump the price of the Woodcraft.

If ya need clamps of that type, I'd say jump on it.

Regarding pricing, a summary from Nickao, a reviewer on Amazon:
They do discount these. He has purchased them at 1/2 price on another site recently purchasing 16 of the 50" clamps for 23.00 a piece. He [aid $89 for the combo set. Even on Amazon he bought the 98" for 44.00 so watch for frequent price changes at Amazon. Check with other woodworking stores who frequently beat Amazon's prices on these.

Edit: Another reviewer lists some of the features (comparing with Bessys) as:

Deeper throat depth, 4-1/4" compared to 3-3/8"
Wider jaws, 1-13/16" compared to 1-7/16"
Longer clamp head 6-15/16" compared to 5-1/8"
Adjustable rail stop that slides up and down bar
Length marking along the length of the clamp

Here are the three links it would have taken you to. Just some additional reading that may benefit some on the fence regarding brands.
