I don't have one, don't know how good it is, don't know if it's a good buy and I don't need one. Just posting the coupon in case someone has been waiting for it to go on sale. I freely admit to being an HF shopper, but not an HF stockholder or employee.

I have one, and it does an adequate job. I don't cut a lot of mortises, so it didn't make sense to go for one of the high-dollar units. I got mine on sale and used a coupon which brought the price down into the $70's. Another odd thing at the time was that nobody in HF knew for sure whether it came with any chisels. In fact, it does (or did) come with three of the four most popular sizes (1/4", 3/8" and 1/2"). -
That's the mortiser I have Rags, and it's well worth that price IMHO....add a 15% coupon and you're in bidness!
If I did alot of mortises I'd opt for a higher end machine, but this one has done what I've asked once I added a DP vice to replace the rickety hold down.

You can greatly improve it by adding an X Y vise http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=94276John HunterComment

p8ntblr:
Unfortunately, no. I had to loosen the three quick clamps to move the leg to the next position. This set up is definately not for production work!
> The two orange HF clamps hold the leg to the mortiser table.
> The blue Irwin clamp holds the leg to the mortiser fence.
The other clamps remain in place.
Two 6" bar clamps hold the fence solidly to the mortiser table. You can see the right clamp in the photo.
The mortiser is bolted to a piece of plywood. The plywood is clamped to the work bench. You can see the left clamp in the photo.
I made a couple of faces for the fence so the center support for the fence can be moved back. Otherwise, it hits the head when cutting deep mortises close to the fence. I recess and glue a magnet to near each end of the face and use loose magnets on the back of the aluminum fence to hold it in position. You can see the face in the photo between the leg and the aluminum fence.
The depth stop on the HF mortiser is useless. I cut a piece of 1" PVC down the middle, then cut to the length needed to stop the mortiser head at the right depth. I wrap the two pieces around the right column and tape with foil duct tape. That's the shiney surface on the right post in the photo.

I have two HF's here in town, and you are correct that mileage does vary, but in spite of all the finagling I've managed to do there, I have never had them accept one coupon on top of another. The register won't do it, and the managers here cut me a lot of slack, but they have all refused the double coupon thing on me. One of them told me that is why they've gone more to coupons on individual items, instead of just a sale price: because they want to get away from people trying to use more than one on a single item. That sounds plausible to me, because they certainly don't need trash cans full of scrap paper, and these individual item coupons don't help them harvest names for their mailing list. There seems to be no other reason for suddenly moving away from sale prices in favor of otherwise useless coupons. Using a discount coupon on an item when it's simply on sale without its own coupon is still OK.Comment
