Oneida DC Cartridge Filter - $71 with S/H

Polyblend Filter 18.06 X 26", I think it's about 1-2 microns based on the filter efficiency table (but I'm not positive that I'm reading this right).

I was also considering the Wynn 35A cartridge, which has similar dimensions but maybe slightly better filtration efficiencies and also includes the turnbuckles for mounting, but it ends up being about $45 more with shipping.

If you're going to chuck the bag+dounut collar that most home shop DC systems have, then you might want to look the smaller/cheaper model (13", $47). The 18" is more for a bigger 2.5 to 3.0 hp system. It will work for a 1.5-2.0 like the HF dc is, but it's pretty much overkill.

Also, Oneida is backordering a lot of these two half-price filters (I ordered one two weeks ago and had to call to get them to "find one") - not surprising, since they have been on "half price sale" for about 2 years now.

Hmmm...guess it's not much of a sale if it's been ongoing for 2 years! I hadn't realized that.

I was thinking this would mount to my delta 50-850 since the outer ring is 20" and the inner flange goes to 12". I suppose you need a donut to mount the smaller filter?

Oh, okay, I see what you're doing now: you're planning on keeping the existing ring, and replacing the upper filter bag with the 18" diameter filter, al-la the Wynn filter mod that you mentioned.
        That should work.
PS: and it's a "sale" in the idea that it's cheaper by far than anything else and should work fine for most people.

I bought one for a HFDC and it has great surface area, not overkill as the cleaning should be minimal as compared to the smalled filter. Being a paper blend the more you fuss with the filter in cleaning the more the life span will be effected. I use compressed air and tapping, cheap plastic bag on bottom inside old cloth bag instead of expensive thick ones.

            Andrew has it right!

There is now such thing as overkill in that larger equates to more surface area, greater flow, longer duration before flow becomes impaired enough to require cleaning, longer life due to less required physical abuse (cleaning). The only real downsides is the increased sized takes up more space and takes more time to clean when needed.

I don't mind hearing it, but keep it to yourself if it stinks.

Yeah, that's what I'm planning. I should have been more explicit in the OP. Thanks for the confirmation; you had me nervous!

Andrew, I like the idea of using the plastic bag inside the old cloth bag. I've been recycling an old plastic bag for probably longer than I should, and I was just thinking this morning how bad it would be if it busted open, spewing sawdust everywhere! It should be easy enough to tell by weight when the bag is getting close to full.

This is open on both sides, right? Do you guys just use a piece of plywood for the top?

Hopefully it's not on backorder for too long.

              Sam

Yes ,open both sides, for the top anything will do even mdf. You can run a rod from the top ctr. to the bottom and x bar to the DC vane to hold all in place, or glue the top on and use turnbuckles as in the Wynn web site.

I received the filter on Friday, only a 5 day turnaround! Seems to be very well built. Was very well packaged too.

I ended up using the rod and cross bar to mount to my DC. Seems to be working great!
