Chicago Electric HVLP Spray Kit $65

Harbor Freight has a Chicago Electric HVLP Spray Kit for $65 with coupon below-

    http://www.harborfreightusa.com/usa/...5_retaila.html

This kit looks identical to the HVLP kit offered at Woodcraft for $99, and also at Rockler for $80(On Sale). A few reviews are listed at Rockler. http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?O...Select=Reviews

Would this be an acceptable starter gun?

I got one when I started making dressers and outdoor furniture. I've only used water based poly through it but it's been great for that.

It's also real handy as a self contained unit. No air compressor to lug around.

Does anyone know what other finishes/paints can be / have been used in it?

Wouldn't ya know it... I get one of those units through Woodcraft -- the next day Rockler puts it on sale for $10 cheaper, and now HF drops it another $15 from the Rockler price....

I'm using mine with lacquer, but may pick up another one for stains only.

The HF Unit looks the same. Has anyone used one and can anyone verify that it is actually the same unit? That is quite a price. If it does the job, I'm definitely going to pick one up...

Check out the reviews on ROckler.com. One post comments on shooting water based paint and poly. One states that he doesn't even thin the poly.

From what I understand, they are all the same units. I have used mine once to spray shellac and I was happy with the results.

I don't own one, but I have heard good things about it on the various forums.

btw, it is on sale at rockler for $80. i am considering it, assuming it works on enamel paint as well.

does rockler have any free shipping code now?

Picked one up at the local Harbor Freight for the $65 today. Obviously the build quality is what you would expect at that price point. I will say that if the picture didn't prove it, seeing it in person confirms that it is the identical unit. The documentation provided with the unit leaves something to be desired, I may swing by the local Woodcraft and compare the manual that is provided there.

I went and picked one up today at HF. What a great price. I determined that they are definitely the same unit. You can compare the instructional drawings from the manuals here and here (pdfs!). I'll be following the Rockler manual! I can't wait to try this thing out! Thanks!
