Home Depot - King of Prussia, PA - Moving Sale

If anyone in the Phila area is interested, the Home Depot in King of Prussia is going to be moving to a new building. They started their moving sale this week - everything is 10%-30% off.

A cashier told me that they were moving on May 2nd, so they'll probably be dropping prices slowly over the next few weeks. Contractors were starting to clean out things like coil nails and romex, so I'm betting that a lot of basic supplies will be gone before the big discounts hit.

Why would anyone call a town (city?) "King of Prussia"

Got to be worse than some of our Oz towns: Wagga Wagga, Wangaratta, etc.

We're named after a bar that was named after Frederick the Great of Prussia. The owner decided that it was a good way to draw in Prussian soldiers during the revolutionary war.

And back to the subject of a HD moving. My closest HD moved to a new building a couple miles away about 2 years ago or so. I got in on the last 2 days when everything was 75% off the lowest price marked. I ended up with enough 10-3w/ gnd wiring to do all my 220 wiring for the shop. 6 recessed light cans, and 4 swivel mount light fixtures for spots on specific power tools. 2 rolls of landscape lighting wire, and a 250' roll of 16 guage speaker wire. Plus a lot of other stuff like water filter pitchers we used for Christmas presents, and I don't remember what else. They sold a ton of turkey fryer pots that day!
Anyway, there are some really good deals if you need stuff that is left by the last day. One thing that was disturbing, is it looked like several people went in at the close of business the day before, and loaded carts with stuff they wanted, and left them there to come in the minute the store opened the next morning and grab their carts an go to the checkout lanes. I thought that stunk! It shouldn't have been allowed, but the employees didn't seem to care, they just wanted the stuff gone so they could get out of there. Happy Hunting!! Jim.

                The big BORG move.

Or how the BORG screwed up. I live in a small suburb of Detroit. Home depot bought out a few business' cleared land and constructed a standard BORG store. 2 years later BORG wanted to remain open for 24 hours. Our community said no, your too close to residencial areas. BORG said ok and constructed a new store 1 mile away in another city that would let them stay open 24 hours. The new store had the 24 hour thing going for less than a year then went back to normal retail hours. Rub is they could not sell the former BORG box and now use it as a training center. I don't think they even use it as a warehouse.

Can I claim that I left PA for NJ because of this?

Back to the HD again, I've been wondering about that. I get through that area on occasion visiting relatives in Berks county, and have been wondering about the new HD there, right across the highway mess from the old one. I guess the old one is too small?

When they rerouted the Rt202/I76 interchange a couple years ago, the existing HD lost a major access road from Rt202. I used to be able to just make a quick stop on my way home. Now I have to get off one exit earlier, hit 3 traffic lights and 2 turns to get there. The new location is much more accessable from the highway, plus it's bigger and there's room for one more store to share the cost in the new lot.

Well, that makes some sense then. The HD does seem a bit of a challenge to get to from 76 west. Taking the ramp for 422, I pass it, still not sure how you'd get in.

I wonder what will happen to the old store....

Just a reminder - the store closes next week. It's pretty stripped, but what's left is 30-60% off. There's plenty of electrical and plumbing supplies remaining.

Any appliances or are they gone?

I need plenty of electrical and plumbing (4" to 6" DC conversion) plus future shop expansion.
