I picked up a 22104 a few months ago in store for something like $349. Adding the 2-year warranty and CT tax had me out the door for $406.
This saw has been on clearance a long time, and most of the stores around me didn't have it in stock -- I had to drive 1 hour to pick one up at another store.
Note a couple more things:
-- the $529 online price doesn't include the shipping, which for me would have been $175
-- if you buy in store, the thing comes encased in a huge metal frame that barely fit in my Explorer; best to have some friends help out, hopefully with a big honkin' pickup
I first considered this saw when I saw a floor model at my local Sears. The salesman looked up the price, and it was $181. I had a bout of mental flatulence and didn't buy it. An hour later it was gone. In the end, I'm glad I have the new one, but $181 is hard to beat.
It's a very good saw -- I added a Freud blade when they were on sale at Amazon last month ($23 for a $90 blade) and it has done very nicely for me.
While the 22104 has received pretty good reviews, I recently purchased the 22114 for $563 including tax. No shipping as the saw can be ordered online and picked up in the store. I got it during a sale @ 30% off. Advantage is CI wings, (don't know if the fence is different), and the miter gauge comes with an extension with a moveable stop. Not a great add-on but comes with the saw. There is also a rip fence extension that comes with the 22114.
I have no idea when Sears will have another sale but it might be worth waiting. If I were looking at the 22104, I would also condsider the Rigid TS3650 at the BORG, they are currently having a sale (I think). The Rigid recieved top honors in a review of contractor style saws and several folks on this forum have it and really like it. If you haven't already, I would suggest looking on the internet for reviews of the TS3650.
Wonder why the 22104 is on clearance? Might want to ask your local Sears tool guy.
Not sure why -- maybe new models will be coming out at some point. I know they are hard to find in my area.
I would think that, given the good reviews, they're either coming out with a new model or it's a pricing decision (sell more 22114s and make more $$?) by Sears.
The 22104 is a good buy at or below $450 IMO. $529 is close to regular price, and I think it'd be better to step up to the 22114 at that price ....goes on sale ~ $540 often enough. Gains you cast iron wings, a fence w/clamp on the miter gauge, a wider stock rip capacity to the right, and the indexing fence.
Happiness is sort of like wetting your pants....everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.
I noticed it online this morning on sale at $396.97. I'm going to attempt to talk the LOML into letting me bring it home to replace the sorry excuse for a table saw 24885 that I thought was a great deal at $99 on clearance at my local Sears Hardware store because of a minor crack in the plastic base. As it turned out.. not a very good deal.
