    HF Clamps on sale again.

Got an email coupon for the 24" bar clamps for 4.99, expires this Saturday 3/31/07. Also it looks like the 36" bar clamps are still on sale for $4.99 as well.

Good price, but the usual caution applies: this is the only type of manufactured clamp of which I'm aware for which the specified length is NOT the clamp's capacity. You'll need to deduct about 4" to allow for the jaws; i.e., the 36" will actually only clamp about 32".

I haven't seen those, but I can't imagine they would be stiff enough to handle much pressure over that distance. I think they would have to have a fair amount of bow to them.

I have a few of the 24's and a bunch of the 36" ers. Very pleased with them.

Have you used those? Do the bars bow when you clamp them at close to capacity, around 48"?

I'm very interested to know the answers to bthere's questions, too. If the 60" aluminum clamps are any good (and the description says that's the actual jaw opening), even the regular price of $19.99 is not bad for a clamp of that size.

I picked up several of the 36" and 24" clamps a few weeks ago...they seem to be "ok". You get a little bit of flex because they are not as thick a gauge material as some of the other more expensive brands, but like I said, there OK.
I do however think that the wood screwclamps they have at silly cheap prices are a good VALUE. I have rebuilt our stairway with new treads, risers, balusters, etc. and have needed LOTS of these and they work great!! They look EXACTLY like the ones lowes has, with a different name stamped (branded) on the side, for a whole lot more $$
12" @ HF was $4.49 on sale, lowes was $17 +/- for their 10"...go figure

One of the recent issues of Woodsmith had a quickie article in the tips & techniques section in front from someone that made extensions for the aluminum bar clamps out of wood. Bolt the extension to the end of the clamp and you have any length you want. Looked pretty cool.

Thanks for the post. I just bought a dozen of the 24" length. The other lengths were on sale earlier this month and I picked up some of those as well.

I have not tried out the longer lengths to comment on them but these clamps seem to be nicely constructed and pretty solid.

I notice HF has an extendable version of the clamp on clearance sale.

Any one have experience with these?
