    HF 9" WW vise $30!

I have this vise, and I think it's just as good as vises costing 2-3 times as much. At the very least, it's a great deal at only $30.

i saw this in the email that hf sends out, and wasnt sure of its quality and i have to go out of the way to stop at one of these stores, so i just passed it, thinking that it probably wasnt good quality.

bigguyz, now that i saw that you say that you have one, is there anything you dont like about it? i have never used a vice (this brand or other brands) before, so any information would help.

    thanks,

      Bigguyz:

Thanks for posting the info on the vise and the coupon. I went by HF today and picked one up. I had to find it for them but it was definately worth the trouble.
For those who might be interested it has a max opening of 10" without wood facing. It's quick release action is operated with a lever on the front. The casting isn't perfect but nearly as good as those costing a lot more.

      Thanks again Bigguyz

I'll totally admit that I'm no expert, but compared to other vises I've seen, you can beat it for the price. I bought a 7" Pony vise, and it is a piece of junk compared to the HF vise.

Is this mostly used with a DP?
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Nope. It's intended to be mounted to a workbench.

              15% off coupon

I bought one yesterday, and the computer/register accepts the 15% off coupon that came for President's day. Still good through Feb 24.

I bought one yesterday but they wouldn't take the 15% off coupon. It's still a really good deal. I picked up some maple for the jaws today. Now I guess I have rebuild my mediocre workbench to warrant a vise.

I also got two today, now I have incentive to built a real workbench. They also did not accept my 10% or 15% off coupons, but still a good deal.
                  Thanks Bigguyz.

                    Got one today @ $29.99 w/ both 15% and 10% coupons!

Bought hardwood flooring nailer and the vise. Gave them the 2 coupons and asked if any of those applied. He said yep and applied the 10% off. The 15% was expired (I didn't see that) and he did a system override and gave me the 15% off. Wait, now that I think about it that applied to the nailer.

My initial impression is a little let down. I mean it is what it is and if it works well then its a keeper. I guess this thread had it built up in my mind to Groz quality, which the one I bought is not. Little rough casting/grinding.

I picked up two (of the four in stock).. but didn't try any extra coupons.

Q- Is there any advantage to having more than one on a table?

I haven't build a table yet, but I may return one if it won't do any good...

I think it would be handy to have one width wise and one lenth wise, if you have holes for corresponding bench dogs. Just depends on how you have your bench set up in relation to your surrounding work area.

i went a picked up two. they had one in the box and on record they had like 8, but couldnt find them. so i bought the display. the one in the box, had the plate off the back that supports the two bars and hold the middle screw (drive) in place. i guess i will have to fix that. didnt even think of using the coupons! next time. didnt spend too much time looking at the wise, will now look and see the quality of the casting.

I picked one up yesterday too. It looks as good if not better than the Rockler/Woodcraft versions.

I have a twin-screw vice on the end of my workbench but experience has shown I really needed a smaller quick release vise too,

Got both of mine 3 or 4 years ago and have had not a moments worth of trouble with them. GREAT VISE.
