My neighbor has the Sears version and is happy with it. Not to mention he paid $450 for his Craftsman version.

Seems like a great deal based upon the reviews. It does appear to be identical to the Sears model if you want to go to a store and put your hands on one. Of course they could be gone soon.

Edit : Wonder who the manufacturer is on this? If it is made by Palmgren, then the Sears model will likely be discontinued soon as well.

It doesn't seem like people are interesting in this one. However, this planer is not available now from Amazon.com. Is it sold out or just Amazon.com find the price mistake? just like the PC ROS price mistake a few days ago.

I just ordered the cheaper 84112 model for $129 shipped. I have survived 55 years without one so I figured what the heck at that price [about same as taking the family out to eat where I live] even if I rarely use it. Searching Palmgren on Amazon shows their products are anything but cheap and usually highly rated. I just hope I can get blades for it if I ever need to replace them and maybe I should order an extras set now. Plamgren's website shows the same mdel numbers though the 84112 has infeed/outfeed tables and both models look a bit different cosmetically so maybe they are just clearing out the old style ones.

The palmgren 84114 planer I ordered arrived today. It is supposed to be brand new, but the one I got is obviously refurbished. I can even see some wood chips inside, the stainless steel bottom plates has a lot of scratches on it, besides, the manual is nowhere to find. What a disappointed order. I was expecting a brand new one as they described on the web. Honestly, the planer itself is a pretty solid one, and a lot heavyer than those $200-300 planer. I just can not bear the fact that I ordered a new one but came a used one. I have already contacted Amazon.com for brand new replacement, hope it will come soon. But it just too much hassle although they will arrange a pickup. BTW, the price for this item is jumped to $249.99 now.

I'm not saying your isn't used or refurbished, but planers often come new with wood chips in them because a test piece was run through at the factory to be sure the blades were aligned properly. When I bought my new ryobi AP1300, it had wood chips. It also came with an insert explaining that it was still new despite the chips. This may not be the case with yours but it would explain the chips and scratches, assuming they are reasonable in amount! Let us know how it goes!

It is for sure is used. The scratches are not likely be caused by normal wood feed, they are very deep scratches. Besides, without a manual, I don't even know what else is missing and what is the use of several parts come with the planer. Today, Amazon.com already confirmed that they have ordered me a new replacement for me, and will have UPS pick up the used one today. I don't know when the new one will be here, I will let you guys know how it goes when I test it. What I can say now is that it is really well built compare to my current TP305.

Does this unit have locking cutter heads for reduced snipe? Or, if anyone has used it, what is the snipe like... how many inches?
                              Never met a bargain I didn't like.
