That is an excellent router! I have had mine for 2 years now and have nothing but praise for it. As for whether to get a kit or a few at a time. I'd say that has more to do with if you can swing the price for a large kit and how serious you are about woodworking. The big kit may save you a lot of money in the long run but only if you will make use of most of the bits.

I have two of these Hitachi Routers,
One the fixed base, and the other the full fixed/plunge base kit. These are my first routers and let me tell you they are SMOOOTH.
VERY quiet and both versions (kit and non kit) are compatible with each other. Very easy to remove the motor from the base.
After borrowing the brother in laws craftsman router for years, these are wonderful routers! The craftsman was noisy and incredibly hard to adjust the depth.
I have had these routers for about 5 months now and both the plunge and fixed base give great results. I have one router moter on a 1/4 inch collet and another on the half inch. I mounted one of the fixed bases under the routing table and can setup 1/4 or 1/2 inch bits quite quickly. The table is 3/4 MDF so above the table bit changes are not a possibility, but taking the motor out and changing on the table is a snap.
I highly recommend these routers as a first, second..... nth router in your shop!
BTW:
Frankenbase is happy with A Hitachi router in it. Frankenbase is nearly complete pictures to follow soon!Rule #1: Never worry about the little things.
Rule #2: EVERYTHING is a little thing.Comment
