    Ryobi Deals at HD

Just cruised through my local BORG and saw that they had Ryobi 10" Compound Miter for $69 and a 10" Table saw for $87. Didn't get the exact models, but thought this might be a good deal?

I'm considering buying one, if not both. Anybody out there using Ryobi and if so, what's your feedback?

    Thanks,

He is a newbie. This forum is NAMED after a saw that got a lot of it's members started. A Ryobi BT3100, which is no longer sold at the borg (Home Depot), but now rebranded and sold as Craftsman 21829. That $87 tablesaw, is NO bargin. I can't speak to the miter saw, as I don't have that brand, however my cheapy has done me incredibly well, but I am seriously looking at upgrading now.

correction, this forum is named after a family of saws, that started with the BT3000. Before the police get me
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

          Wareagle,

Welcome to the forum! I have several Ryobi tools and I'm very satisfied. Some of my "Ryobi" tools are more than 30 years old and wear the Craftsman brand. Over the last four years I've added a considerable number of new tools to my arsenal, and I'm quite happy with every one of them.

          Merry Christmas,

what he was chuckling for was when you asked if anybody uses the ryobi stuff, he was pointing out this entire site was started, named after, and dedicated to people that use ryobi tools, namely the bt table saw. It really had nothing to do with you being new besides the fact you didn't know you were basically on a web site dedicated to ryobi, and asked if anyone uses those tools.

Don't take it hard. I was just browsing and didn't have time for a proper response.

Like it has already been mentioned, that table saw is no bargain. Nor as any benchtop saw that I can recall. They are basically to light for the job, don't have a good fence, and can't easily be tuned to tight tolerances. There are some good portable "job-site" saws, but they are pretty expensive (Porter Cable, Bosch come to mind).

The BT3100 was originally a $300 saw, and was easily the only safe and accurate saw under $500. Now that the BT3 is gone from the Borg, you can get the Sears clone (which is quite a bit higher in price than the BT3 was) or try a used contractor saw.

I do know where a store display is for $250. It looks complete.

The miter saw, OTOH, might not be too bad. Miter saws don't have the inherent safety issues that a table saw has, so a less precise or expensive tool can still be used safely.

                Now gentlemen, be nice

I work with him and pretty much talk about woodworking and BT3 enough to get him interested on hopping on board.

It's my fault, I should have brief Wareagle before posting. He actually called me on the phone and asked me first. But since, I do not have the BT3100 I recommended him to post to see if any of the current users could make any recommendation.

Welcome to the forum, Dave! There's a lot of good people here with wonderful knowledge and experiences to share with us newbies.

Ryobi miter saw might be a good value since I have not seen any people complained about them. Now for the table saw, my recommendation is either go with the BT3100 which I found a couple still in the box at the HD @ the Sprinhgill store marked at $239.00 or you could browse Chicagoland craigslist.org to see if there is anybody getting rid of their current saw because they are upgrading. Two weeks ago, I saw a guy with a JET table saw in St. Charles (I think ) that was trying to get rid of it for less than $300.00

                Good luck, bud!

I started with BTS10, the saw you saw at BORG for $89. If you are doing construction/building type work this saw is OK; anything more precise and you'll be disappointed. I have turned out OK woodworking cuts with mine but it ain't easy. It can hold tolerances of +/- 1/32", sometimes better. If you need precision, spend your money elsewhere or use circ saw with GOOD edge guide. My $.02

Other than the BT3K, I don't have a lot of experience with Ryobi tools, so I'll just say "Welcome Dave!"

                      Thanks,
I have the BT3100, and consider this saw a real jewel for its price -- especially the sliding miter table. I cannot imagine having a table saw without one.

But, I've gotten rid of most of my other Ryobi tools. I'd rather spend a little more and buy top brands. I've got a number of Ridgid, DeWalt, Delta, and Craftsman tools that I consider excellent tools. My absolute favorite is my DeWalt DW735 13" planer -- I think perhaps the finest example of spending a little more than I really wanted to, but really glad I did.

Welcome to the family. Come on in and make yourself at home.

The Ryobi brand is generally a decent made, in-expensive item mostly slanted toward the DIYer. As in any brand (tv's, cars, lawn mowers, etc) from top of the line down one model is GREAT BUY the next is TOTAL GARBAGE.

Do not have the two tools you mentioned, so I can not comment on them.

can't say I have ever owned a Ryobi tool myself, but I am a sucker for deals. Thus why I frequent this site.
