Where are all of the HD and Lowes deals?

For the last several years, HD and Lowes ran a bunch of incredible sales in the weeks leading up to Christmas. I haven't seen much of anything so far this year.

Am I early on this, or are the sales really off?

My feelings as well. It must mean that their sales are better than previous years. Perhaps they're waiting for end-of-year, post-Christmas sales.

I heard on woodnet that HD is having an unadvertised "black friday" style sale this friday.

No details have provided as to what is on sale or how much you could possibly save.

Their weekly flier is normally up by now. So they might be holding off for the Friday sale. Then again I didn't think their Black Friday sale this year was all that great. Maybe it was just me since I didn't need anything they had on sale.

If HD has something, Lowe's might do something quickly also.

There is a thread on fatwallet about this sale, there is no info as to what's on sale.

I read an article a week or two ago that hd business in general was way off, may be the reason for lack of bargains.

I actually thought HD had about the best deals this year. Unfortunately walked out of there over $1k lighter in about 10 minutes on BF.

They seem more interested in installing things and selling appliances, higher mark up items. They are getting worse buy the day in selection and items for DIY. There are HD ads promoting "being man enough to hire someone to do it", have you heard or seen that ad?
Lowes has a guy trying to buy a powertool for Christmas and ends up buying a tub, installed by a Lowes installer no doubt.

Just went through the flyers that came in todays paper. Bunch for other places, no home depot or lowes. Browsing the paper, I spotted a one page ad for each. No major markdowns. Very few items listed. 1/2 the things were regular priced items the others were marked down fractionally.

                    Not worth anybodys time IMHO.

Historically, I believe these sales weren't until the week prior to Christmas and not before. So kicking the sale off this Friday is about right on with what they have done in the past. Remember all you need is one of them to do a big sale on products that aren't exclusive to them, and you effectively have the sale at all (all meaning any store that matches competitors).

I think this is true but it seems to me that they have been going downhill for the last 3-4 years. It may just be that I have already jumped on the deals in previous years to attempt to curb my"Tool Lust" .

So anyone check out HD to see if the so called 'Black Friday' sale kicked off? If so, any good deals to be had?

I was there this afternoon. I didn't see anything that I didn't see earlier in the week.

I was over at the local HD late this afternoon and there was nothing special. I did overhear one of the "aprons" pointing out to some guy that they had some unbelievable "markdowns".

I went over and looked at the handwritten sign in the tool corral and found it a bit disappointing. Maybe a couple of big, cordless combos were a bargain, as I don't usually follow those prices.

But things like the Ridgid MSUV being $179, marked down to $149 is sort of a joke. Last year it was $149 and in the spring it was marked down to $99 for a couple of weeks. The price a couple of months ago was $149; so, looks more like someone's trying to hoodwink the customer. The Ridgid 10-inch CMS had a similar rise in price, only to be shown as a "sale-priced" reduction, to take it back to its regular price. Apparently HD has found that such tactics are not beneath its dignity.

Quite a few Ridgid and Ryobi tools were stacked in the main isle with regular prices marked on them. They probably figure that an unaware buyer will snatch them up, thinking it's a Christmas special.

                              Very disappointing,
