That would put the 734 at or near the top of the value list IMHO over the Delta 22-580, TP400, DW735, Ridgid 1300, or Makita for a well equipped quality benchtop planer....it's essentially got all the basics that you need for good results at a bargain price. Time for the fence sitters to leap!Last edited by Knottscott; 12-08-2006, 06:25 PM.Happiness is sort of like wetting your pants....everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.

I appreciate the value in recon tools, however adding the Dust Hood, infeed/outfeed tables, etc make the 735 a lot more than $300. When I priced the 735 with tables, stand, dust hood, etc the decision was easy to go to a 15" planer.
IMHO the Ridgid is still the best deal out there. $350 includes dust hood (2.5 and 4"), tables, stand, extra set of knives and it does a good job.Comment

Just to keep the record straight, the DW735 does include, as standard equipment, a dust hose adapter and dust ejector chute. They do offer an optional chip collector that hooks up to a garbage can but AFAIK nobody else even has this option available. The infeed and outfeed tables are also now standard equipment with the DW735. Of course, they did raise the price of the planer $50, the cost of the tables when they were an option, when they made them standard equipment.Last edited by sweensdv; 12-09-2006, 11:34 AM._________________________

That's a great idea that they have included the tables. Reviewers state that without the tables the 735 snipes like a $150 Grizzly.Just to keep the record straight, the DW735 does include, as standard equipment, a dust hose adapter and dust ejector chute. Perhaps...depending on the situation. The DW734 includes the dust hood and tables. If there's sales tax involved, that'll increase the total to near $375 vs $293, so you're getting the stand and blades for that $80 premium. If you don't need or want a stand, or don't feel that it's worth $35-$40 extra, the DW734 could be the better value, but it is convenient to walk home with the Ridgid in tow. I agree hte 734 is a good deal. I do place a good bit of value on the Ridgid Lifetime Service Agreement on this item. If you heavily use the thickness planer, rollers, etc can become damaged by wood chips and need replaced.Perhaps...depending on the situation. The DW734 includes the dust hood and tables. It seems that I have passed on some information that may not be correct. I had read on another forum that the DeWalt DW735 was now including as sandard equipment the infeed and outfeed tables. I passed along this info without double checking to make sure that was indeed the case. It was brought to my attention that the DeWalt website makes no mention that the tables are included.

I've got a 10% off coupon for HD from one of those school coupon books. So for me, I think it's going to be the Ridgid 1300LS. That coupon at least covers the tax on it. And it does seem to have a lot of extras included with it.
All I want for Christmas is an HD gift card, an HD gift card, an HD gift card........lol
It's frustrating how HD has items on their website at higher prices than you see in the store. Who buys that ? Shipping on top of the higher price is really a huge difference. The Ridgid TP is $30 more online and the Ryobi is $50 more online. Anyone know the reason for that ?

1. Just because they can.
2. More overhead involved in catalog sales.
3. For some, $30-$50 wouldn't cover the cost of gas for a round trip to the nearest HD.
4. All of the above
5. None of the above, except #1._________________________

Well, I'm STILL looking for a good planner and everyone's input is extremely important in my decision and purchase. Man, and just when I was really leaning hard on the Delta 13 this post pops up, lol. Decisions, decisions.
