    Lowes and Porter Cable deals

I noticed a PC 557 biscuit joiner on clearance at Lowes for $149. I was at another Lowes today, and all they had was the display model, and the front desk said they would give me 15% off of $199....that's laughable.

How do you get the manager to come down to a reasonable price? It is missing everything except for the tool itself (no blade, case, etc.)?

They "couldn't locate a Manager on Duty" so I had to deal with the front desk.

I would think a reasonable price would be half off.....thoughts?

Personally, I wouldn't give any more than that. Good luck.

Very often the problem is that, selling it to you for 1/2-off costs the store more than handling it the normal way (returning it to their distribution center). If Lowe's cost was $120, they can return it and get a credit of $120. If they sell it to you for $100, they actually show a $20 loss.

So you either need a manager that cares more about his own store's bottom line (not likely), or at least offer to cover their cost plus a couple of bucks.

With the amount missing on this one, I'm guessing it isn't going to be economical.

I used to get great deals on our Lowes resets, most bare tools $20, batteries $10 etc. Now I do not see that kind of discounting.
A HD mgr. told me that they get full credit on displays if returned to the manuf. or even thrown away as a loss even if the tool is perfectly good, but if the sell it then they actually lose money. They were throwing away ts3650's that were returned without any attempt of repair, some they said were just returned b/c the customer did not want it. They had to destroy the item for Ridgid to credit them.
I almost had a great deal on a MK101 tile saw missing parts. The store had about 5 in various conditions. The dept. mgr. was going to sell me one for $300 (over 1k new)and get the missing parts too. As I was waiting for those parts, they had a new store mgr. come in. Boy she was a stubborn woman, who said she was going to throw them all away rather then sell them and take a tax deduction as a loss. I even had a signed invoice by the dept. mgr. for the saw but she still would not let me buy it. I should have taken it that first day and not waited for the missing parts to come in. The dept head tried his best but she refused the written deal. Tried several times with different store managers ,different days, and she must have told them too b/c they also would not honor the deal.
They all did end up in the trash dump too.
Lowes is usu. better here and I avoid HD if I can after that. That year I spent over 20k there duing a remodel of my office. I hate setting foot in there even though she is not there now. HD customer service 800# is a joke as bad or worse than she was. Never been treated like that at any Lowes.
The PC557 blades,2, are not cheap and they can be as low as $130 if there is a sale and rebate, new. I have had managers that just seem to want to pick a fight about the price, others are willing to deal. $150 complete is a good price but not a steal. Lowes has sales-floor people in the tool dept that can adj. the price, I try that first and unlike HD, they have just signed it off if they have already set a price.

A few weeks ago, I found the PC bicuit jointer on clearence for $100 at Lowes. They had two in boxes and one from the display. I asked the saleman about the price on the display model and he remarked it to $50. Unfortunity I really did not need it and did not have the spare cash on hand. I really really really like the fence on it.

It's been on my eventual get list. A couple of projects that my father and I have coming up, could be usefull in, so I stopped at Lowes last Tuesday before my frozen fuel line. Closeout for $159 (high rent area), but only close Lowe's. Said wtheck and got myself the last one as a present.

                    Thanks for the heads up.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.
