What chuck does the Delta come stock with? If it's the same as what the Jet does, you've probably got a 3" flat faceplate and a twist center.
A scroll chuck like this and other allows to grip various different sizes of objects, and is useful in turning bowls and vases for example. The problem with the midi/mini lathes is that we're limited to a max swing of about 5-6" inches, which makes for a smallish bowl etc.
