Skil router+router table at Lowes: $89

Regular: $99. Is this a good deal for a weekend handyman?, I have a handheld Hitachi, but need a table and dedicated fixed router.

    1 3/4HP, 1/4" collet, single speed + table #155680.

    thanks for your input.

You get what you pay for- I'd wait and spend a bit more for a higher horse, 1/2"
collet unit. Triton, Bosch, DeWalt, Hitachi and Freud all make good units- each has it's own strong points.

I'd rather buy a better router and make my own table to shave costs. 1/2" shanks make a big difference....I think I'd pass on that one.

Biggest advantage of router in a table vs router in your hands is that you can use big bits that are unsafe in hands. For big bits 1-3/4HP is not enough and 1/4" shank is totally unacceptable. For dedicated table router this does not cut it. You will be better of making your own table with your existing Hitachi non-dedicated.
