    Ryobi AP1300 planer $100 (only 1)

    LOCAL DEAL ONLY

If anybody wants it, the Home Depot in Elmont, NY had an AP1300 display in excellent condition for $100 on the clearance table as of 9:30pm tonight. (On a table near the left-most entrance) If I didn't have my Delta I would have jumped on it.

Also had the Ryobi bandsaw for $100 and a Husky air compressor for $50 (the portable one with the extendable handle and wheels). These deals were 50% off.

They just redid their "Tool Crib" and must have sold off many of the ancient displays since the Crib looks a lot more organized. I.E, any tools that have stands (table saws, band saws, etc) are displayed on a shelf w/o the stand now and the display models are nice and new looking. I know there was some discussion recently about the Borg phasing out displays. This does not seem to be true...just a more organized way of displaying demo's. (Anybody familiar with this Home Depoit knows the Tool Crib was a disaster).

I have the AP1300, good little planer. The new model isn't so good, in my opinion. Someone should grab up that AP1300, at that price you can't go wrong.

Wow, thats a great price and an excellent planer. I have the AP1300 and called around to about 10 different Home Depots to find one that still had it. The new model, the AP1301 is not near as good. The new model doesn't have a cutter-head lock like the ap1300. I couldn't find a model with cutter-head lock (it really reduces snipe) for less than $400, aside from the AP1300.

      Great find!

How can you ask the store if they have one remaining if you're just calling around ?

The SKU #'s on the website are the same for the AP1300 and AP1301.

Just ask by the model # ?

I'll take that one up in New York -- you gonna ship it for me ?? haha Would love to find one around here but will probably settle for the AP1301 if not.

          Stormbringer,

Thanks for the tip on the planer. I don't live near Elmont, but my parents do. I had my dad drive over and pick up the planer. Unfortunately it turned out to be an AP1301. The tag said AP1300, but when he got it home I asked him to describe it to me. He told me it didn't have infeed and outfeed tables which should be on the AP1300. He checked the model number on the motor and sure enough it was an AP1301.

I was going to have him return it, but then I realized that getting an AP1301 for $100 was still a pretty good deal (50% off the price they are selling for at my local Home Depot). I just read a review in this month's WOOD magazine and they claimed the AP1301 did a very nice job other than the snipe issue. The article mentioned you would have to deal with snipe unless you build your own infeed and outfeed tables which I plan to do. Does the lack of a cutterhead lock make that much difference if the material is well supported as its feed into the planer?

This would be my first planer and I'm not really willing to part with $400 for the Rigid unit. I saw a Delta at Lowes for $240 and while it had infeed and outfeed tables it didn't have a cutterhead lock either. This model didn't do as well in the review in WOOD magazine. Seems to me that on my limited budget this $100 unit might be worth keeping even if I have to put up with a little snipe.
