    Lumber sale at Rockler 10/20-10/22

The annual sale of lumber at rockler is this weekend. Red Oak is $3.50 a bd ft. For the Seattle area that is a good price. Baltic Birch plywood is 50% off as well.

We generally have very competative domestic hardwood prices here in PA.

$3.00 is good for S3S Red Oak if it is nice defect free wood. I pay $2.50 for FAS rough Red Oak.

$5.00 for Curly Hard Maple is good if the figure is nice.

$6 for Walnut is a bit rich. I'm paying $4.00 FAS rough.

$3 for Poplar is pretty bad. You can find it for $1.50 around here.

$4 for Cherry shorts is ok, but standard price for FAS Cherry is $4.

Isn't that strange that the plywood is so much cheaper in CA, yet the Walnut is almost twice what it is here?
Of course there is always the possibility that I got ripped off.

It might be because California's relatively closer to the enormous softwood industry in British Columbia. OTOH it might be something else.

How do you guys find out about these sales? Via E-Mail? I've signed up for E-Mail from my local store several times but I've never received anything. I know it isn't caught in spam filters because I white-listed "Rockler." Maybe my local store never sends E-Mail.

Just got an email from the Seattle store and they didn't even mention the wood sale.
Are any other woods on sale besides Oak and the birch ply?
Do you know if it starts Friday morning or Saturday morning?

                      Thanks!

Last year all the wider widths of purpleheart and more unique woods($$$) were sold within the first hour in the Tukwila store. I was so busy watching a router jig demo, the purpleheart I needed for LOML's project walked away right by me.

You guys on the East coast may want to check SMC. There's a lumber run being setup. Also one on Woodnet.

Cool! I was out of town a couple weeks ago for the last SMC lumber run. Have you saw any threads on the quality of the wood?
QS Red Oak at $3.25 is lovely.

I E-Mailed the Milwaukee store, this is what I got back:

                            Phil:

We do not have any lumber or plywood on sale this month, our domestic turning stock is 10% off through Sunday this week.

                            Tom
So, looks like these sales are set on a store-by-store basis.

                            Maybe sometime in the future.

The mail was from the Tukwilla store. I rarely go to the Seattle store since parking sucks. I really wish we could get a rockler in the northern area of the eastside.

It only mentioned Oak and birch ply. The sale is from the 20-22.
