Baltic birch plywood at Rockler

Today I stopped at my local Rockler to pickup some Baltic Birch. I mention when I'm checking out that the fact that I'm purchasing it means it is about to go on sale. The two sales guys say, "it was on sale all last month--buy one get one free."

Was it really on sale? I never noticed a mention of it in any flyers. I didn't see a post here, and never saw any postings in the store. I always stock-up when its on sale. Am I really that oblivious, or is Rockler hiding their bargains? Did anyone here know it was on sale? Previously users here have posted sale notifications, and I didn't see any this last month.

I don't know if all of their stores hold the same sales all the time but in Buffalo what they said was true.

Yes, it was on sale. But still so high priced, it was fine to buy at local cabinetmaker lumberyards. Be careful when getting sales pitches at Rockler, they are in some cases not good deals even with a hefty discount.

I think if Woodcraft opened a store in my area, Rockler would sink into the sand.

Woodcraft is one mile down the road, but they are more expensive than Rockler on BB plywood. At least when Rockler is on sale.

I have both in my area, but Rockler is much closer. I really wouldn't want to be without either.....

The three things I like about Rockler are: the T-track and hardware, I like to keep my jigs somewhat universal and using Rockler track and hardware makes it easy; thier Jessem products and pricing; I was able to get the Mite-R-excel and the FX lift.... along with thier router table package at an insanely low price last year; and their recent JET deals, I have a new mini-lathe dust collection/filtration system because of an awesome deal. In general, I shop Rockler more because it is closer, but I've come to know some of the employees and I like to do business there.

The thing I like to about my local Woodcraft is that going there gives me an excuse to go to Addison. Addison is a neat DFW suburb. I bought a mobile base there once, and some GS clamps on sale, and a router bit.

But really; I knew about the BB ply sale, but I didn't get any. My local Austin's HW has had maple ply for pennies more, and my HD had Canada birch ply for less then $30 for the thick stock.


What I'd like, is to see a big sale on mahogany ply.

Yep it was on sale and I had bought several pieces. My Rocklers always has a 2 for 1 sign on the plywood when its on sale.

I often feel like my local Rockler is having a sale but I need to know the magic words to get the deal. I'll give you an example: First, I'm a regular there. I was purchasing an item for approx. $100 that wasn't on sale, and I didn't bring my coupon from a recent flyer. I mentioned that I was sorry I forgot it, but I needed the item now. His attitude was "that's too bad." Then I noticed a stack of the same flyer by the door. Each flyer had the coupon. I went and got one and used the coupon. And the sales guy actually seemed miffed.

I was a little surprised. Most other places where I'm a regular do a better job taking care of getting me the discounts.

I like the stuff, I just think some (not all) the help could be more helpful.
