    Factory-Recon DeWalt DW735 Planer

I bought, then later returned, the new-model Ryobi planer a while back. I decided then that I would just wait until I found a good deal on the one I really wanted.

This morning I ordered a factory-recon DeWalt DW735 planer from Amazon for $364, less the current $50 discount for purchases over $300, so net $314 and with free shipping. That's the best price I've ever seen. I also ordered the tables and chip extractor and got an additional 10% off those. A good deal and I'm happy. They had three left when I ordered, according to their site.

Between the time I ordered mine and the time I am writing this, an hour or so, they raised their price to $379.99. That is still equal to the best price I had ever seen until this morning, but not quite as good a deal.

I like my local Woodcraft but I can't afford their prices for big machines. They are advertising the same planer, new, for $449 at a one-day sale later this month. Yes, I know there are cautions that go with buying recon tools, but I have bought a couple in the past from CPO and I've always been happy. I'm hoping my luck holds.

I have gotten some good deals from Amazon over the years but the reasoning and ethics of their pricing escapes me. Good luck if you decide this is the one you want.

    Looked like a great deal

I saw that deal yesterday, but I hadn't done a lot of research on planers so I let it go.

It seems that if a person is patient another deal always comes down the line, especially at Amazon.

I've purchased a few recon tools over the years and have had very good luck with them. As long as they're factory reconditioned and warranted I wouldn't hesitate to buy a recon if the deal was right.

I have the DW 735 planer and I bought it reconditioned from Tool King. Of all my power tools, I'm most pleased with its performance. It really exceeded my expectations. Enjoy!

I got a reconditioned DW735 from Amazon a year or two ago. It arrived damaged - one corner of the base was busted apart and the blades were nicked badly. And the unit arrived non-functional. I later figured out the wiring to the power switch wasn't plugged in but Amazon had already agreed to replace the unit due to the other damage. The second one arrived with a crunched corner too... it seems Dewalt's packaging is not particularly suited to shipping needs. Otherwise the new unit worked perfectly. It also had new blades. Still works great too.
