The GMC ATBR1500 Magnesium 1/2-inch Triple Base Router offers the ultimate in functionality and convenience. Equipped with a powerful two horsepower motor pack and three bases, this tool can be adapted to suit every application. And no matter the application, the D-handle base offers superior grip and control.

The fixed base is best used with a router table. View larger.

The D-handle base offers superior grip and control. View larger. In addition to its three bases, this router is packed with features. The bases are constructed of magnesium alloy for lighter weight, superior strength, and greater durability. With a continuous thirst for innovation, GMC invests heavily in research and design. GMC has kept a close watch on innovations in non-powertool industries, such as aerospace and sporting goods, and has made clever use of these industries' various material developments. Magnesium is one such material that has offered an enormous benefit to power tool design.
So what's so special about magnesium? It's simple: magnesium is lighter, stronger, and more durable. In fact, it is the lightest of the structural metals -- 75-percent lighter than steel, 50-percent lighter than titanium, and 32-percent lighter than aluminum. Many power tools on the market feature extensive use of aluminum, which can make them heavy to hold over extended periods of use. Unlike aluminum, magnesium components are lighter weight, and therefore reduce user fatigue and increase safety. Magnesium offers superior strength compared to other materials commonly used in the manufacturing process. This superior strength helps increase the durability and life of your tool for a longer period of time under rigid and frequent use.

Micrometer depth adjustments on the ATBR1500 allow precise depth of cut settings to be made, while the variable speed ensures a high-quality finish in all materials. The motor speed features a soft start that allows you to get the motor running slowly and smoothly -- this prevents kickbacks that are often associated with powering up a router. In addition, constant speed control maintains your desired speed even when the tool is under load to ensure a perfect finish, work piece after work piece. Other features include an interchangeable brush system for an extended service life, 2-inch plunge capacity, full rubber over-molded handles, and an eight-position turret stop. Of course, the ATBR1500 also comes with its own handy carrying case for easy transport and storage.

    What's in the Box

Does anybody own this tool? The kit description doesn't mention a fence or other attachments and the GMC web site doesn't even mention the tool!

If you know anything about this kit, please chime in.

My understanding is GMC owns/makes the Triton series. I'd be leary of this one though. (what about bushings etc).

      Off to work again
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

"...d-handle for superior grip and control..."

Uh-huh. Of course that was no doubt written by some marketing type, not a woodworker. The handles should come off the D so it can go into the table, leaving the regular fixed base available for non-plunge handheld work.

But yeah, I'd be wary, too. Even the full price is suspiciously low for a three-base, 2-1/4HP router kit.

          Larry,
I don't own and never tried any D-handles, I have 1 regular fixed base router and 1 double-base kit with plunge and fixed bases. But I did notice that for regular edge operations and such Norm uses D-handle more than fixed base. I believe there is a following that holds D-handle in high regard. I would like to try it one day but not enough to buy a special router for it and none of mine has this option.
