This thread just fuels my fear that my Ridgid equipment will be dinosaurs with an avenue for parts and accessories before their life expectancy has expired (or a reasonable facsimilie - 25 yrs or so). What a shame of mismanagement. I wonder what other retail store will be willing to handle Ridgid if HD deep sixes thgem?

Perhaps it is an OK idea. At the HD's I have been to, the large tools are piled up at the back of the tool area, and are not displayed well. They are left to get dusty, stuff gets piled on top, etc. They do take up a lot of valuable real estate.

Anyhow, do we know that this is a new HD policy, or are we jumping to a conclusion from one report from one store from one question to one low-level employee?

The two local HDs that I wander through have been revamping the tool crib area. One has put the big power tools on a shelf about 3 feet off the floor. So you can still "see" the tools somewhat but it's much harder to walk into them. The other looks like it's getting ready to do the same remodelling job.

The big Ridgid power tools are getting more "front and center" display; the Ryobi and other stuff is squeezed together on the ends of the display. It's almost like that Tetris game; the Ryobi drill presses are twisted/intertwinded with each other. If you wanted to see one up close I'm not sure the sales guys could even pull just one down... too tangled up.
