Main reason for me purchasing this is because I already have Ridigid's 18V cordless hammer drill, impact driver, circular saw, 4 18V batteries, I was after the battery that came with it.. I ended up selling the other stuff individually @ craigslist, planer alone sold for $65.00, Charger for $25.00, Case for $15.00.. At the end, I got one 18V battery and made out some $$ for more tools..

The HD in Hackensack NJ has a bunch of Makita 3 1/4" corded planers on the clearance table. (N1900B)

70% off $139 should make them about $42.

        Planer Blade Source

Has anyone found a source for blades for this Ridgid planer? The HD doesn't carry them. Sears doesn't carry them. I even went to the Ridgid web site and can find blades listed for many of their tools but not this planer. Does anyone know where to find the blades or is this a throwaway tool. The blades get dull and throw the whole tool away???

          PHROG,

In the last Home Depot tool catalog (Aug. 05) they were listed for $19.97. It said, "catalog/internet only". The catalog showed them as Spiral Hand Planer Blade AC20SP1 (168142). I presume the price is for a pair, which it shows in the catalog on page 36.

As mentioned in my previous post (above), the blade issue turned me away from this purchase. These are single-edged, high speed steel blades. For my occasional use the Ryobi "corded" model seemed a much better buy. The blades for it are double-edged carbide and can be purchased from either Home Depot or Sears. My local Sears store has them in stock.

I don't know, but the blade issue may be one of the reasons this particular tool is on clearance.

          I hope this helps,

          CWS

            Thanks CWSmith

            Hey CWSmith,
I appreciate the info. I bought one of these planers but before opening the package decided to investigate the blades. ( I always buy an extra blade or blade set for a tool before using it.) That's when I discovered I could find no reference to blades ANYWHERE. I think I'm going to take back my new acquisition for a refund. Think you are on the mark about your purchase. Again, thanks for the info.
