Metabo Jigsaw - $88 Shipped at Amazon

    All,

Do not have this jigsaw, but do hear good things about the Metabo brand.
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=228013

Anyone having any experience with this model can chime in with details.

Some of the Amazon reviews mention that the Metabo jigsaw is physically identical with a model sold by Rigid.

And is it my imagination, or does the Metabo planer look to be identical with the (discontinued) Ryobi AP1300?

That's pretty good price. Have heard that the Rigid is indeed made by Metabo. Just for the sake of the lifetime waranty, if I were looking to buy one, the Rigid would get strong consideration. It would be close to the same price, if one had a HD 10% off coupon. Picked up the top end Bosch last year for a good price, so I don't need one. But I have seen a couple of great deals on jigsaws in the last couple of monthes, which have made me wish that I needed one ;-) Have been very pleased with the Bosch though.

The only difference I can see between the AP1300 and the Metabo is the power switch and the color.

But then you wouldn't have a Metabo in your shop now would you? LOL

Metabo does make the Ridgid saw. This has been confirmed before with parts, etc.

According to the Metabo USA website, registering your tool there extends the warranty to 3 years:
              http://www.metabousa.com/XXL_R__warranty.8810.0.html

Since the nearest Metabo service center turns out to be (surprise!) within walking distance of my house, and I need to replace or supplement a 1960's vintage Porter-Cable jigsaw (still working, though the bayonet-style blades are getting hard to find, and the off-on toggle switch leaves something to be desired in safety), I have pulled the trigger on this one.

I would agree also, but it doesnt seem that Ridgid is offering a lifetime warranty on this.
In the R3120 pdf and on the HD site it says 3 yr warranty.

Also, the Ridgid model #s recently changed from
                  R3120 & R3121 to
                  637521 & 732065
But they both have the same SKU #.
So, is one made by Metabo and the other a knockoff made (where)???

How would this saw compare to a Bosch 1590? I've seen the 1590 refurbished for about $20 more. I'm getting a BS this weekend, but I figure a better jigsaw then I have now will help to more home improvement type projects. Or where I can't take the BS with me...

1590 refurb for $100 is a KILLER deal (sure its not 1587?). Jump on it. The only problem the 1587 ever had was blade changing and that was fixed in the 1590. There are a couple of threads on other sites advising the advantages of the 1590 over the rest of the group. True variable speed based upon trigger pressure versus 4 or 5 pre-set "variable" speeds is one of them.
I would clearly get the Bosch. I love the Bosch in an admittedly un-natural way, but hey thats legal in my state!
