    Height Gauge

Seems like a good deal at $6.99 but shipping would probably be a deal breaker.

It looks better than it performs in my opinion. This wonder of China mfg. feels like lots of hardware store parts striving to work together but never work well. Of course, some may like it fine, I was disappointed.

I was much happier with the Hi-Gage attachment http://www.hartvilletool.com/product/11717 coupled with a quality combination square. It just doesn't have the depth rod, etc. Hartville has it on sale for 20% off and Rockler has it for 15% off this month.

Thanks for the input, that's one I'll take off my list.

I think Rod has a shop made version that is a thing of beauty.

I have that same model purchased from WWS about 10 years ago and still use it. Accurate and handy. I can't complain about it except that I let it get hidden under other tools or hide it in a drawer when cleaning up.

The only thing I can see that might be a problem is that it might be made cheaper today than it was then. For that price, I would buy another one if I were at a WWS store.

I'm glad you pitched in on this one, it's good for others to hear another opinion.
I paid more than $7 for it and was not happy for the price I paid. $7 is much more in line depending on shipping. I will re-state that some might be happy with this tool, so if you can get it for a decent price and want to try it out, don't let me stop you. Just remember there are other options.
One that comes ot mind is that some people absolutely swear by the simple plastic Incra height gage while others say it was a waste of thier money.

For height adjusts, the Hi-Gage or a set of fixed height gage's give me far greater confidence than this tool. I even have the simple plastic Incra height gage but have not tried using it much yet.

I use this one by Incra. Like everything else from Incra I have used, it's dead-on. It uses Incra's 1/32 rack system. It's $15 at Woodpeck, and they currently have a 10% discount:

I also use the Incra Gauge

and I really like it. In combination with my fractional calipers I can set and repeat critical measurements on everything from mortise and tenon layouts to my table saw cuts to my router set-ups. Since I started using these tools my accuracy has improved considerably and so has the quality of my work
