I have not used that drill but looking at the specs it is a light duty drill rated at only 105 inch pounds of torque. My 14.4V Bosch drill by comparison is rated at 450 inch pounds though granted that is quite a bit more money. Even most of the 9V drills from the premium manufacturers are rated at about 200 inch pounds. It may suit you just fine but you may want to look around a bit more. If you can find a good price on a Ryobi 18V drill kit that is a good drill for the money and I had one for a while. I think I have seen them for around $59 at Home Depot form time to time. --- Steve
You can try HD now to see if they still have the special combo of the Ryobi drill, flashlight, battery & charger for $49. Seems like $10 would buy a lot.
The B&D should be okay for a minor jobs around the house. I have several drills including a cheapo HF which is still working after 10 years. I also have a 24V B&D which I like.
However, for only $10 more I would get the Ryobi (if you get the same number of batteries). The only thing that annoys me is having to buy a cordless flashlight with the kit.

no sales yet, but thanks for letting me know this is not a good deal on B&D.

I was referring to the post from davidtu. I'm not sure what is the current price at Home Depot. I'm just saying that if the Ryobi is only a few dollars more, get it because it is a better brand.

I'm also in the market for a cordless drill. Was wondering if the Craftsman 18v Drill/driver model #11383 is any good? It is also currently $39.99 at K-mart. I couldn't find any specification on it, I did a couple web searches and only found old threads about it being clearanced at Sears between Dec'05 and Feb'06, sold out now. I searched this site and only found mentions of the Craftsman cordless drills in general having poor battery life.
Also I checked out the Ryobi and HD web site and the pic of it and the pic of the Craftsman 18v are nearly identical. Could they be Ryobi made for Craftsman like the Table saws are?
Is this a good deal or is the Ryobi better if I can catch it on sale?
Thanks in advance.

It is my understanding that Ryobi does make some of the Craftsman tools. If they look the same, they probably are.
Based on personal experience doing DYI projects with the low-end BDK, the BDK FireStorm, and the Ryobi 18v series, I highly recommend the following:
Buy either the Ryobi 18v drill/flashlight kit (2 batts and charger included) that HD is selling for $99 or even better, buy the 18v "Starter Kit" on sale now at HD for $109. This "Starter Kit" includes the above, plus an 18v trim saw. And wait..there's more: If you buy the MultiTask kit for $49 in addition to the "Starter Kit" and send in the appropriate paperwork, Ryobi will send you a rebate check to cover the cost of the MultiTask tool. That's a free tool in exchange for a short-term $49 "loan".
Sure, I'm recommending that you spend an extra $60-$70 for the drill, but believe me, it's ten times more quality and performance than you'll ever get out of that low-end BDK.

If that B&D is the same one they were running at christmas, then it only comes with one battery, and another battery costs nearly as much if not more than that kit.
If price point is that important, then I would look at the Ryobi also.
I have several (4) 9.6v B&D drills 2 that are 2 speed, and 2 that are VS.
I still use them even though, I also have several Dewalt 14.4 and a Dewalt 18v kits.
THe B&D is useful for light duty stuff, but I wouldn't want it to be my only setup.
Now, if Ryobi had an impact driver out back when... then I might have a bunch of Ryobi stuff also.
I have a Dewalt Impact driver that I picked up on sale a while back and it gets used more than any of the drills for driving screws.
Amazon currently has a great deal going on a Porter Cable 9V drill that has 220 inch pounds of torque and two batteries. That would fill the bill nicely as meduim power drill from a quality manufaturer. With the 10 percent off it would be $56.70 shipped. --- Steve
