    Jet Mini Lathe

Amazon has the Het Mini Lathe for $249 (down from $279). I think there is also a 10% off code (JUNESAVTENPT), so it works out to $225 with the free shipping. Any thoughts on this one? I have $225 in Amazon gift certs, but don't know if I should jump into a lathe yet (though I may change my mind)

When I worked with both the Jet and the PSI Turncrafter Pro, I decided the Jet was better. However, I would only give it about $30-40 advantage. Unless the Jet was at $200, I would get the PSI instead.

I've been told by Jet national distributor that they are getting out of woodworking lathes (all power tools?), at least here in Canada.
They have no stock of any lathes for almost a year now.
I called the central distribution warehouse and that is what she told me, no inventory anywhere.

The Jet/Nova combo was close enough to worth it for me. I already have a full size lathe but that was in the "shop" which has no A/C. The Jet fits nicely in my other "shop" which is smaller but has A/C. WELCOME LATE NIGHT TURNING!! WOO-HOO!!

Now that's a good deal! Anyone who's considering a mini should be jumping all over that one!

            Regards,
            Tom

I did. I am hoping my 13 year old gets completely addicted.

The big surprise (though it should not have been in retrospect ) is that the tools & sharpening equipment cost about as much as the lathe...

Basicly it allows you to turn things that you can't do between centers.
If you are just starting out you may not need one but once you get into turning you will find the need. The chuck will come with one set of jaws but expect to add 1 to 2 more sets.

Note that the package deal does not include the worm screw.

The Nova midi chuck does come standard with 50mm jaws and the worm screw. However, in this package deal the worm screw is not included. I know, cause I bought one of these. I didn't know it until I unpacked everything and found the little slip informing me that the worm screw wasn't included. Still a great deal, but shame on them for not including what is normally a standard part.
