    Mobile Base at Rockler $37.99

    Hey all,

    Rockler has discounted their universal mobile bases to $37.99 from $49.99. This is the single wheel base that you supply the crossmembers for (2X2 hardwood is recommended, but 1 1/2 tube steel works too). Review seem mixed, but this is the least expensive mobile base I've been able to find.

      Depending on what tool you're going to use it for, the Herc-u-Lift may be a better base @ 29.95

          I agree that the herc-u-lift would be a better choice for almost anything with an open base. Unfortunately (of fortunantely depending on how you look at it) I'm putting it under a closed base jet jointer. If I could figure out a way to make the herc work for it, I'd love to save the 8 dollars + shipping. Any suggestions?

              What kind of gas mileage do you get?

              Call the Minneapolis store (612) 822-3338 to see if they have any in stock. Shipping is $8, so that wipes out the $8 savings.

              If you can squeeze 35 mpg out of your vehicle, then you can get down and back for about 4 gallons, or just a shade under $12. Buy other supplies, and you're reaching break-even.

              Yep. . . spend some money to save. . . just doin' my part to help.

                  I got a couple of these mobile bases at the same price last year. I had some scrap hardwood lying around from some crates and pallets. Glued and Milled them out for the frame. For the second one I got some 1.5" square steel tubing and cut and drilled them to the right dimension. For the steel tubes I spent $48 + rockler base $41 (w/tax)= $89.

                  I used the first one for a 16" floor standing drill press. The second one for a 18" floor standing band saw. The 3 wheel mobile bases are darn near dangerous! I have had numerous occasions when I came close to tipping over when moving these machines.

                  I used to have a 500lb cabinet saw which had a 4 wheel mobile base. That was a lot easier and safer to move around, but I have since sold it with the saw.

                  So now, I plan to get rid of these trike bases as soon as I find some decent 4 wheeled ones. I'm dreading this switch since lifting these behemoths on and off the bases are back breaking. So if you have any heavy machinery make sure you get the right base and do it right the first time.
