All it takes is Woodnet, Sawmillcreek, Woodcentral and BT3 members buying a few hundred and Amazons dynamic pricing kicks in. When sales spike they figure they are selling them too cheap. Good business model. If only they would save themselves tons of money by packaging them together!
Actually in this case it looks like they "sold out" and are now being sold by 3rd parties. It would not be unusual for Amazon to bring them back at the lower price when they find they have excess in inventory.

Pardon replying to myself but it turned out to be a persnickety limit on the discount offer - the items had to be HAND TOOLS. So I've had my eye on that Bessey KBM1 K-Body Maxis VarioPivot Clamping System - and got that.
