If anyone needs a wet/dry vac, the HD ad that came in the paper today has a $40 MIR when you purchase any Ridid W/D vac $69 or more. The offer is valid 6/1-6/28.
Also, as part of that ad, it has a 12 gal., 5.0 hp vac for $69.95, making it a net of 29.95. I have this same vac and it does a great job. I had been looking for a smaller sized unit to lug around to some of my rental properties.

I have a large 16gal, 6hp craftsman that I really like, except for its size (it's light and easy to cary, just bulky), so I'm looking for something smaller for the garage that takes up less space and is easier to tote around. Anyone have any experience with those 'store and go' wall mounted units (Rigid model WD5500)? Seems like a nice setup with decent power and portability and with a 10% coupon and the rebate would come in around $50. Any input or other suggestions?

I bought this vac (WD1245) this morning after seeing a post on FW. I didnt have a coupon and didnt want the vacs to sell out, so I bought one in store for $69.97 + $5.77 CA Tax = $75.74 out the door. My first shop vac! Plugged it in and tested it.
Initial thoughts:
- Very powerful.
- Sturdy, a bit bulky but pretty light. Seems to be well made.
- Not too loud - my neighbor has a 10 yr old Shop vac and the Ridgid is much quieter.
- Make sure you tap the wheel housing in with a mallet (gently!) till the bottom is flush with the vac.
- Make sure the wheels "snap" into the housing. If you dont hear a loud pop, they didnt snap in and could come out.
- Cord management is a pain. There is a place to hang the power cord on the top, but it didnt seem to stay - I'll take a look at it again later.
Decided to get a better vacuum and drove down to the local HD. They were out of the toolbox model (WD4550) and could not find it listed on their computer. It's apparently discontinued. I did some more research and found that the 4050 model is pretty well rated. Went to another HD just in case they had the toolbox model and the 4050. They had one toolbox model out of the box. I looked at it and then the 4050. I decided on the 4050. Got it home to vacuum around the baseboards. Turn on the switch. Man! This thing sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Worked with it all afternoon. Might coulda used wheels on it, but it slid around fine on the carpet. Lifetime guarantee. Powerful. Works great. I am very pleased. Subtracting the gift card, which is money I would have spent at HD anyway, the net cost is about $30. Strange math, but I believe in it. Check it out.
Every time I read this forum, I spend money. Right now, I'm "rebate poor". Went down to HD this morning, they had both the "toolbox" model, WD4550 at $89.97, and the "Tug-a-long" model WD4050 at $69.97. Even though I'm getting back the $40.00 gift card, I couldn't bring myself to spend that extra $20 bucks for the toolbox model. Although it appears the hose stores inside the toolbox model, which is nice.
I'm pleased with the model WD4050, seems to have good power, not as loud as some shop vacs I've seen. (the muffller accessory is included). and is small enough to carry around and stores easily.
Thanks for the alerting. I purchased a W/D vac from HD for $99 a little over a month ago. I stopped by HD today to 'update' my receipt so I could qualify for the $40 GC.
The small Rigid vacs you guys are talking about both have a 1 7/8" diameter hose. This is an odd size between the usual 1 1/4 and 2 1/2" hoses. HD has very few adapters or other nozzles that would allow one to use this hose with the small outputs on a lot of sanders, routers, jig saws etc. Any ideas on how to adapt either of these vacs to connect to smaller tools?
