    DeWalt or PC ROSanders

I found this Dewalt & PC dealer selling Random Orbital Sanders for 39.95 each on ebay.

even with shipping its not a bad deal.

Those are 'factory reconditioned'. Means someone bought them and returned as defective.

    Total cost with shipping: ~$53.

A DW421 on Amazon is $65 new and ships for free. And if you have more tools on your shopping list, and think you can put in an order for $200, you'll get $25 off, so you'll be getting the sander for like $58.

I have no problem with factory reconditioned tools but you can get a brand new Makita BO5010KX kit for $56.84 shipped. I bought one and so far so good and mine was made in USA. It also comes with a nice case and 15 free assorted sanding disks. --- Steve

I have had the DW421 for many years and it has made a lot of dust without any complaints from me.

I ordered a DW421 so will soon see. I dont have a problem with re-conditioned especially as most are simple customer returns or open box items. EIther way it still comes with the full DeWalt 3 year warranty so is fully covered. If its now good when it arrives I can always return it.

Anybody have specific reccomendations for sanding discs, places to buy, selection of grades? I have used a belt sander and a conventional orbital sander but never a ROS how does it compare e.g. I guess it will remove more material quicker than the orbital but not the belt

or should I ask these Qs in "Tool Talk."

same here. the 25 piece packs are a pretty good value. for plywood and dimentional lumber i usually start at 150 grit and work my way up from there.

one thing about these sanders, let them do the work, if you are pushing down on the sander, switch to a courser grit!

IIRC the assortment includes ten each of 80, 100, 120, 150, and 220 and I find all of them useful. I've also bought a box each of 120 and 220 since those seem to get the most use in my shop.

Klingspor's sends me their catalogs in the mail. They're supposed to have great quality and their prices are good, but for one reason or another I just haven't gotten around to ordering anything from them yet:

I use Mirka from Amazon as well, though I have found a cheaper local supplier supergrit.com

PC 333 has great and easy dust collection. HOwever, these are NOT variable speed which is a instant deal killer for me.
