I don't know if this has been posted already or not, but for the past few weeks I've been getting free 2 day shipping at Amazon. After three months I can choose to continue for $70 (this may not be the exact amt) or cancel.

That's Amazon Prime. I took the trial offer before Christmas. Free express shipping on all those last minute gifts sure came in handy. If you don't wanna pay that $70, make sure to set Prime to 'non-renew'. Otherwise, you might forget, and then you'll be $70 out.

Other than when you need lots of stuff shipped fast, this is totally not worth it. This is only for Amazon-sold stuff, not independent vendors. And almost all Amazon-sold has free regular shipping anyway.

In what way is the free trial of amazon prime not worth it?

I've been getting free 2nd day shipping for a couple of months now. It's really nice to get everything two days later instead of up to a couple weeks later.

Several things I've ordered didn't have free standard shipping, so this has saved me some money as well.

I think he means it is not worth it when the "free" part turns into $70., at which time I'd definitely agree.

I also tried this during Christmas. It also allows you to order when you need something, not when you have $25 worth of things to order. I also didn't see it being worth $70. I still don't understand the logistics, but I seem to get really heavy tools in 2 days anyway. Most other items are 2-3 days, for free. Amazon is actually hurting their Prime Membership market by shipping Super Saver items so well.

I've heard that when your trial is about to run out that if you call them up and complain stating $70 is too much for you that in most cases they will give you 50% off renewal.

The $70 sounds more like a gimmick than a bargain IMO. At most, I order from Amazon only 3 or 4 time a year. Most of the items are received in 3-5 days. Unless time is money (i.e., if you need the tools for work), you order frequently from Amazon, or you are the impatient type, it is not worth the $70. However, a free trail is definitiely a bargain. :}.
