    Jessem Table

I don't know if this is a mistake since all their other items are buy it now but this might be a steal. I just got one at woodcraft and it was ~$180.

Did your purchase include the mounting insert or just this item?

I had to buy that seperate. 3 pieces total costs me ~$440.
Table, insert(no lift) and fence. I will have to say it is pretty awsome.

The seller of this item has all their other items as buy it now. So i was just wondering why this new item would not be like all the others.
Probably to late to return mine and bid on this one.

I think ebay may require that they do an auction now and then. I bid on a spare fence the other day from that guy "jcherrai" (or something close to that) who sells Ryobi parts. Almost all of his stuff is "buy it now" but I found the fence for auction. Unfortunately someone sniped me with like 1 minute left which made me wonder......

He put another one up right afterwards. I bid on it too, will see if I get sniped again. If I do I'll be suspicious.

So it could be the seller buying his own item maybe?
Put it up to comply with the rules but make sure they don't sell it to someone cheap...

I dunno, probably not but it just seemed funny that I was winning, I was the only bid even, with 5 minutes left on a Sunday night and I got beat by $1. Most likely it was someone using some sort of special bidding software. I certainly have no reason to believe the seller is anything other than a good guy.

Yes, there was a discussion a while back on this matter. Due to the way ebay operates, sniping is the best and most effective method for the buyer. That other guy did not 'outbid you by $1'. He might have put a bid that was $100 above yours. However, past the starter bid, final price of the item is determined not by the top bid, but by the second best bid. You bid $22, I bid $102, item goes for $23. Bidding early means others have time to either jack up your price, or outbid you.

I always bid the same way: I put item on watch, and determine the hard limit I'll pay. If item goes above that limit, I never even bid. Otherwise, I'll bid my limit roughly 5 seconds before auction ends.

If the item is 'hot' the seller does not have to resort to gimmicks. With about a day still left, I guarantee you that this item will see some very heavy bidding, most of it likely in last 30 seconds. I will not be surprised to see it shoot even past their usual 'buy it now' mark. That they did not even bother to put a reserve shows that they are not worried about selling too low.

Far as seller putting up same exact item as soon as auction is over: This is called supply controlling. If you want X, and there is only one listing for X, that is where all bids will concentrate. If there are multiple listings of X, bids will be diluted among them, often resulting in lower selling prices.

Let me get this straight. If there is an item with a current bid of $20. And seconds before the auction ends I bid $100 and Im the last bidder I only pay $21???? That makes no sense. If I really wanted to make sure I got the highest last bid so I could buy it for barely more than the bid before me I could just bid $100,000 and make sure no one out bid me???
That makes no sense does it???

May not make sense but it is correct. Danger in bidding high like that is if the other guy had done the same thing you could end up making a very high bid...

That would be just fine, as long as someone else doesn't get the same crazy idea but bids $99,999, then you are going to be paying quite the premium for your $20 item. The idea is to win the auction for the lowest price without paying more than it is worth (to you, or otherwise). If it is worth more to you than everyone else, you will win, but if you bid your maximum with 6 days to go, someone will come along and pick away at your bid until they reach their max or yours. Either way you pay more than you would have, or you don't win it at all.

What doesn't make sense is setting your highest bid any higher than you are absolutely willing to pay. Go ahead and try a few auctions with this method, and let us know how many great deals you get

Ebay is full of folks who get caught up in the excitement and bid higher than is reasonable...they often end up buying the item for more than they would pay if they bought it elsewhere.

Awhile back someone here posted an auction for a rip fence micropostioner. The winning bid was over $50.00 w/ shipping, but you can get them through Sears for around $30.00. But hey, he won the auction!
