    Taunton Almost Fooled Me

This is sort of an anti-bargain post.

Got an email from Taunton announcing a sale on all their books.

    http://www.taunton.com/store/annex_fw.asp

30% off if you buy 2 or more. Almost jumped on it. Decided to check prices at amazon.com first. Amazon sells all this books for around 37% off Taunton's list price, no need to buy 2 or more, and free shipping!

    Doh!

Yeah, this came up a couple-three weeks ago -- I had just purchased the Andy Rae Cabinetmaking book from Amazon, so was glad to see I had missed Taunton's "good deal".

    Regards,
    Tom

As a book collector, I can say from experience that Amazon is always the cheapest source for new, in print, books, and usually for out of print or used books as well, although eBay will sometimes yield even better bargains on used books. Be cautious of shipping and "handling" charges when shopping on either for used books, though. Neither Amazon nor eBay has any control over these charges from third-party sellers, and some of them will getcha if ya let 'em.
...eight, nine, TEN! Yep! Still got all my fingers!

i think taunton in general inflates their prices way too much. i would never buy anything directly from them. i saw the 30 off add too, and remembered one of the illustrated guide series books selling for about 27 on amazon and they had 30%of of the 40, some probably fall for it though.

Also check places like Abe books and other smaller used bookshops (avoid Half Price books unless you like trash romance novels).

IMHO, not all the Tauton books are a good value. Use your local public library to verify that the book isn't already like what you have, and you would get more than a once-through on it.

Don't forget buy.com has 10% off of amazon's price on books.

Better yet use your local library to borrow it and copy the best parts.
Sorry, I know that's wrong but I usually can't justify the cost of buying a book to have a couple of useful sections.
