OK, just phoned Amazon again, and the rep gave me the $75 discount off the $297.98 sale price without batting an eye, and with no need to order anything extra! Net cost delivered: $222.98. Faith in human nature restored. Now I have to go back to figuring out where I'm going to put that MONSTER!
...eight, nine, TEN! Yep! Still got all my fingers!

Just pulled the trigger today. I paid about $138 after tax.

Still leaves me room to upgrade with a filter or possibly 1 micron dust bags and still be under $200. They were out of the dust collector accessory kits. I will wait later for that. This is the last tool for a while or the wife may kill me...

HF at $137 plus around $40 for Process Systems special made 1 micron top bag made my DC system less than $180. Plastic bag on bottom for easy dust disposal. Top bag is 20" with belts at base, bell shaped to 24" x 48". Looks like I have a hot air ballon in my attic but it has huge suction. Run to TS is longest and it goes 12 ft length , elbow, then 4 ft down from ceiling to connect to 8 ft of 4" PSI hose connected to TS. If it can work flawlessly in this application I believe it will work great for less demanding runs.

Edit : I looked up technical specs on Delta and this is over all a good deal. The Sq ft of the top bag is adequate for proper flow using plastic bottom. Bag is basically same size as I put on my HF. You will come out cheaper with HF with up graded bags. On the other hand there is value to getting Delta all in one box and not having to buy items seperately.

          http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=228013
may be a very good deal... Right now it is $317-75 = 242 free shipping no tax.

Whereas, if you add the 1micron bag to the HF (even at 10% discount) woud be: 160-16=144+76(bag)=$220 -> ~240 with tax... not to mention the extra effort involved in the retrofit, possibly resulting in an inaccurate fit...

imho, I think the fully integral Delta at the jungle is a good deal...
          Just a thought.

          Best,

I just got the 159-20% deal at the Norriton, PA HF. The total came to $136 after tax. With my printout and coupon, the manager didn't give it a second thought. He also said that they just got a shipment of them in. If I didn't get the deal, I would have sprung for the Delta deal on Amazon. It seems like everything I buy needs to be upgraded in some way (which gets tiring). It would be nice to just buy something and be done with it. It would be nice to see these two in a head-head competition after the upgrades though...

I agree with your statement. I don't like upgrading or having to screw with a brand new purchase. Having said that the 2 hp HF with 1 micron bag that you can get for <$40 ($70 bag must be from re-seller instead of manufactorer) is a good value and I would go this route again as I am VERY satisfied with the results.

and it isn't just tools.... it is practically everything. For instance, I bought a top of the line bow last year. It still needed new strings and a new grip to make it acceptible. I didn't find out about the crappy strings until I had all sorts of problems trying to keep it in tune.

on another note- I am just quessing at this point, but I tend to favor the design of the HF over the Delta. I think it may be a little more flexible (more room) for adding a second bucket to catch the big stuff. The motor can possibly be moved if you need to.

I wanted to thank everyone for their sound advice.

I decided to go with the HF2HPDC because it was the cheapest option on a tested machine that has the capability for upgrades at a later date. I was tempted by the Delta DC, but the footprint of the HF2HPDC is somewhat smaller than the Delta and I have a very modest 12x19 space. In a month or two, I will upgrade the bags or get the filter. I am not sure yet. I will try and take some pictures of any modifications that I do....
