    Craftsman 3x21 Belt Sander $29.97

Sears.com is showing 8amp, variable speed 3"x21" belt sander, model 11729 (Sears item #00911729000) priced at $29.97. Anyone have any experience on this sander? TIA. Looking to buy one...

That seems like a really good price. Anyone know what the normal price for this item is?

I'm not sure what the original price was but model 11727 http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...id=00911727000 sells for $99.99 and the only difference is that it includes a carrying case and 4 sanding belts. So $30 for this model seems like a very good deal.

Google's cache from last Wed (3/1) shows:

          Now $59.88

          Was $79.99
          Save $20.11
          While quantities last
Intermediate markdowns may have been taken

Also, if you don't want to do free in store pick up, there appears to be a rebate for the cost of the shipping.

Not that model, but I went thru 3 similar Craftsman sanders before laying out a few extra $$$ on a PC 352VS. Metal body instead of plastic, well balanced, the best sander I have ever used.

I've got a CM belt sander (may be the same one, don't know for sure). I've needed it only 1 time in the past 3 years, and I really don't like the thing. It's very heavy, hard to control, and I somehow managed to damage the metal platen under the belt, which I have yet to replace.

For my anniversary, the wife bought the Ryobi belt/disc sander, and I think it will probably get a lot more use than the CM belt sander ever will. I've used it more already than the CM, and I haven't even tuned the thing yet. For bulk sanding, I guess you can't beat a belt sander, but I doubt I will ever buy another after mine dies.

I have the single speed version of that sander and have been pleased. One thing I did right away was add a graphite pad to the bottom of the sander, which really helped give smoother sanding. I will say that the tracking has to constanlty be adjusted, but for 30.00 you can't go wrong.

I also did not like the tracking of my Sears belt sander. Changing belts was also a hassle - I had to push it hard forward to lock the front roller back. Not a nice tool but it worked OK. I have replaced my Sears with a rebuilt Ryobi from Cummins. It is a much better sander but costs about $60. If you can come up with the extra $, I think you would be much happier with the Ryobi. FWW rated it a best buy.

Bought this sander today at the Springhill store. I have never used a belt sander before and for $30.00 you really can't go wrong.. Someday I can buy a nicer one, but I have to learn how to properly use one first

I had an older model, and the brushes went out on it. I bought a new one-also from Sears-and took the old one to work and used it here for a while. It has finally worn out.
Every thing everyone has said about this unit is true about it being heavy and awkward, but when I use one, I use it hard, and don't really care if it breaks prematurely. But $30.00 makes it very attrractive.

I'm guessing 11728 means no case and only 1 belt. I bought one for $32.00 which came out about $45 with shipping and tax. Sears seems to have a large supply of these belt sanders. Over the last few weeks there is always 4+ for sale. It's an auction so you might get lucky and get it for less than $30.00

I have this sander, purchased for $29 at the Tampa Sears. The belt tracking does leave much to be desired, but if you need a belt sander, you can't beat $29.
