I have read several reviews of the planer and it rates highly for it's price range. If it's anything like the BT3100 then it should be a great tool for the price. I plan on buying it as soon as the funds are available.I love the smell of sawdust in the morning. It smells like...Woodworking.

I just bought one of these when they went on sale a month ago or so. I saw it on sale for 175 then I applied the HD 20% off coupon that someone posted on this site so I got it for $148 I love this thing. I bought a herculift to go along with it and it is perfect. I have used the heck out of it already. I made a bunk bed for my daughter, man did it come in handy. IF you can search for the HD 20% coupon and give it a whirl, the worst they can say is no.Comment

$148.00? Wow, now that's an excellent price. A couple of weeks ago I bought the Ryobi hand held planer for some small bench planing and I was really impressed on how smooth it cut. I can only imagine how the 13"er will work. Where did you see the coupon at?Originally posted by tigg0710I just bought one of these when they went on sale a month ago or so. I have the ryobi 13". I was going to get the dewalt, but on this sale I couldn't pass it up. I've used it a few times and it seems to do an excellent job.Keith Z. Leonard

Did your recently get the unit on sale? If so, can you post a receipt? They are still $249 in Scottsdale!Jack

check the knife screws.....
I read earlier that sometimes the knife screws are way too tight. And then you don't know about it until you change the blades six months from now and the screw heads bugger out and you can't get them to come out. By then it's too late to return the unit. I checked mine and put a little grease on them so I know they won't seize up down the road. Take them out and put back in one at a time so the blade doesn't need to be messed with.
I also had the tension chain mechanism spring in the wrong position so it would not have worked at all. I fixed that also.
Check out on search. For the money it is a great bargain.
Also, a word of caution on the two speed planers: I heard from a salesman regarding the $600 De Walt that the speed lever can be only be changed when the unit is running. If it is moved by someone when the machine is off and you start it up, the unit will try to change speeds under load and break stuff. That was a another reason I didn't want to go with the more expensive model with the extra goodies, plus I didn't really have the money since I will be a very casual planer in the future.Comment

I got it when it went on sale, they have changed model that is why everyone is finding different prices. The newer one looks pretty cheap, It doesn't have the storage on the top (I think) So far I have been pretty happy, It definately needs a dedicated power line to it 15 is the AMP ratingComment

I saw a few months ago that a newer model was supposed to be coming out soon, but haven't seen anything official (i.e. on the Ryobi website)."Success is gettin' what you want; Happiness is wantin' what you get." - Brother Dave Gardner (1926-1983)Comment
