    Lowes Clearance

I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. Y'all have helped me significantly stock my shop with stuff I got mega cheap so I'd like to return the favor.

There was an earlier thread about a tool clearance at Lowes starting tomorrow. I was there tonight and got a sneak peek at the stuff being put out on the tables.

    Tradesman 4"/6" belt/disk sander for $80, reg $129.
    GMC biscuit joiner for $45
GMC bench grinder stand (forgot price but probably 50% off)
One of those B&D impact wrenches that folks were talking about, but only $10 off.

There were a bunch of returned/referb power tools that were not as cheap as I thought they should be (less than 50% off and they mostly looked like they were abused on a dirty job site).
Some hand tool sets (sockets, screwdrivers, etc) that were missing parts but they were crazy cheap, 1-5 bucks each.
Some other misc stuff that I can't remember.

I got a Stanley 24" aluminum framing square for $2, it originally rang up as $12. I picked up 2 other smaller, steel Stanley framing squares at the Johnson clearance so this rounds out my collection. I was considering the Tradesman sander but it was more than I wanted to spend and I'm really a metalworker so it runs too fast for steel and I'd probably tear it up hogging on some 1/2" plate.

    Forgot to mention:
Tradesman bench top drill press. A pretty big one for a benchtop. Sorry but I don't remember the price.

The Plymouth Meeting, PA store has 18 (give or take) GMC biscuit joiners. Their tagged at $64... which would be 20% off of the regular $80 price. I passed. Not worth $64 IMO.... but I'd gladly pay $40-45. Maybe they'll come down a little more.
I like Wagoneers too. Hey...they've got wood

They will reduce them. The price had been dropped to $59.99 from $79.99 over the last two days. I told the tool guy that other stores had them for $35. He said he could go as low as $40 today, but the price could be 1/2 off of the $59.99 price tomorrow. I bought tonight as I like the bird in one hand is better than two in the bush philosphy. I guess I wasted $5 bucks for peace of mind..

Is that GMC Biscuit Joiner any good? I have never really spent any time looking at the GMC line of tools. For $40 it might be worth trying.

I did some research, the consensus is that they are a pretty good value, but the duct port can clog when using on soft woods. Most people are happy with their purchase. Here is a review for the austrailian equivilant. I am assuming that other than the motor differences, all other features are the same.

I was in a Lowes in DuPage county Illinois today and they had a sign up for 10-50 percent off on clearnce tools. I saw very little off more than 10 percent but I did pick up GMC palm sander for $13.49 NIB with case and they had a couple left. I have a Makita ROS sander and felt for $13.49 I could not go wrong with a palm sander also and it is good to have cheap and old power tools around when friends/family ask to borrow one as no way in **** am I ever going to lend anyone my Bosch/Milwaukee/Makita/Porter Cable power tools. They had 5 GMC biscuit joiners on the shelf but still at $79? I don't really have a current need for one but if they go half off on that I would buy one just to have.

Quoting myself... hope that's not lame [B)] Stopped by this Lowe's again on my way home from work today. They were blowing everything out. 2 guys were posted in the clearance section marking things down with sharpies. Got the joiner for $30 and a Delta planter/bench plan for $.50 Glad I waited

I went to Lowes today and they had a new in the sealed box Bosch CPK-2PB for $120 which is the PB10-CD boombox/charger with CD, the 14.4 Brute Tough cordless drill, two batteries, and carry bag. It was the last one so I just grabbed it. I don't really need the boom box so I may Ebay it or Ebay the whole box as they go for around $220 on Ebay for sealed box kit. It really pays to browse HD/Lowes on occasion and I am lucky as they are both convenient. My Lowes still has the GMC biscuit joiner for $79 but they are not moving. Last week they had a cart full of Hitachi FDV16VB2 hammer drill for $29 from $75. I passed as that model had lukewarm reviews on Amazon and I alreaby have a Bosch HD. Happy shopping. --- Steve

A few days ago I was in my local Lowes and on the clearance table was a Bosch 1617EVSPK Router kit, still shrinkwrapped with the free $100 accessory bundle that was packaged with them a while back. The price? 80 bucks. I didn't even have to think, and bought it in about 1.5 seconds.

Found out later it was a mistake (obviously) and they are still carrying the item, no plans to close it out. Still selling them at $220.

So yes, it does pay to check out the clearance table as often as possible

Would appreciate if anyone who bought the biscuit joiner for $40 or less could post a copy of the receipt. Will try the old price match game this weekend. Worked well on the Hitachi bs. Was in the local store this afternoon and saw nothing at all on clearance.
