        Can't really say anything about NEW p/u's but in 1979 I bought a "bottom of the line-stripped" Nissen 1/4 ton p/u. Drove it everyday to work and used it for the same reasons you want one. The ONLY thing I ever had to do to it was put in a new turn signal flasher and at 79K miles had the front brakes relined. It had the original battery in it when I sold it in 1993 for $1500 with over 93K miles on the clock! IMHO the Japanese have a good handle on how to build a quality vehicle.
