I saw the show on the local PBS recently during their fund drive. Simply amazing!

I just had Tivo look for me, to no avail. I'll set up a wish list and get it sooner or later. All hail Tivo!quote:Originally posted by gerti
Blessed TiVo found it for me, here in the TwinCities (MN) it is on 3/19, 2 pm on channel 22. Last showing!

That show is truly amazing. I've built a couple of log buildings alone and with no electricity available, but I had a chain saw and a horse at least. I know how much work it is even that way, and have nothing but admiration for a person that would attempt it completely by hand.
It makes me think back to the amount of work our ancestors went through just to survive daily life!Comment

I have Dish. It was on the regular PBS stations that you can get even w/out cable or dish (just using those UHF/VHF type of rabbit ear deals). On my Dish those are the same numbers as on regular TV (happens to be 6 & 12 in my area). You can do a search on Dishnetwork thru the TV search and type in "Alone".....that is all that was needed to find it. I think I searched under the educational button or something similar. The one I watched was during the pledge-a-thon. My babbling make any sense?

Jar, I did a search last night (on the dish TV search under education)...as luck would have it, the show was actually on the OTHER PBS station in my area. It was almost over tho by the time I did the search. I tried to do a search on future days, but either: I did not know how to do it or it is not on for the rest of the week.
And I just tried to do a search on the dishnetwork site...and the channels start at 100 or something. They do not show any lower number channels for some reason and my local PBS are 6 & 12.
Maybe try to do a search on your local PBS station or send in inquiry. I am sure it will be re-shown soon.
Sorry I could not provide better info.

Bring back the old old threads today..
I saw this show yesterday on PBS and was going to post about it but did a search first..
This mans work was amazing..
I think the most impressive thing was that he could rip nice planks from logs with just a hand saw. Then he goes on to build a door with hand carved hinges, latch and even a lock..
Great show.

Alone in the wilderness
My kids and I joke about the quote: "it was a toasty 40 degrees in the cabin", outside temperatures were in the 30 below range.
I've read the book several times and watched the PBS special numerous times, my wife thinks I am crazy - must be a guy thing.
I remember it really bugged Dick to have to use a little visqueen plastic sheeting on the roof under the living moss because it was not a natural product of the wilderness.
One of the few things that PBS does well is run this type of programming."Life is tough, where a cup"

In general I like a lot of their content. But, if we're comparing the public broadcasting networks around here Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) beats Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) hands down.
I realize it takes more work to produce television programs and that a lot of the MPR stuff is shared from around the country, but it feels like MPR has an order of magnitude more new content than TPT. And of course TPT has a different target audience for most of the day (I don't watch much Sessame Street these days). I do like the new digital TPT-MN channel which has low production value shows about local history, events, etc. occasionally, but it's only available over the air not via DirecTV...Comment
