OK I'm back after a long absence. (My previous username was Germdoc btw.) I was not doing a lot of woodworking for awhile except home improvement stuff. I was playing a lot of guitar, my second hobby, and traveling and working quite a bit.
I recently decided it was time to get back in the game with some serious stuff. So I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to a Sawstop contractor saw. I won't bore you with the details except to say it is extremely robust, with the iron wings and extension table and fence weighs about 400# (though moves easily with the mobile base), and was quite a project to put together and install in my basement workroom. I retired my 15-year-old BT3000 to mobile jobsite saw status, as we anticipate doing some home reno on a rental duplex in Lincoln, NE, in the next year.
I also won't bore you with the performance of the saw, except to say it is very accurate and a pleasure to use in every way. My fingers feel better already.
I made a live-edge walnut shelf recently--there were some splits, so I put in some butterfly keys to stabilize it. Worked like a charm. I am finishing with a couple of coats of Danish oil then paste wax. It will go in the breakfast room.
Anyway, glad to see some of the same names still here. Look forward to posting on new projects in the future.
