    Anyone know Claremont/Pomona area?

I'm headed to Claremont/Pomona California with my son this upcoming weekend.

He's been admitted to a great little college (Harvey Mudd) - and I'll take him for a campus visit.

Anyone here know their way around?

I plan to visit the Sam Maloof Historic residence while I'm there.

The Maloof tour was great, but Sam was still around then, and he showed us around himself for at least 45min including a demonstration of how he cut the curves on his rocking chair. If you haven't made reservations yet, you should.

Half an hour west is the Gamble House in Pasadena. This is another excellent tour but you'll also need to make a reservation.

Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles attracts a lot of locals and visitors for its appearance in various movies. My wife liked her meal a lot more than I did, though. It's busy there, too. There's one in Pasadena not too far from the Gamble House.

Do you like Mexican/Baja food? Other than the weather, this may be the thing I miss the most about living in SoCal. I don't think you can really go wrong eating at any mom and pop Mexican restaurants. What I wouldn't do right now for a good fish taco! If you're unsure of where to go, Rubio's (chain restaurant) is a safe bet and is consistent.

Be prepared to do a lot of driving. I had a cousin that lived in Azusa--between Claremont and Pasadena--and all those towns look the same. I think most people will drive west to LA or east to Palm Springs for their site seeing.

I don't think there's much in Claremont to see, but the Maloof home would certainly be interesting.

In nearby Pasadena there are a number craftsman homes worth visiting, notably the G&G designed Gamble House.

The Huntington, on the border of San Marino and Pasadena (also not far from Claremont), is a beautiful estate maintained as a museum, library, and garden. You can usually find interesting exhibits there and the gardens are spectacular, if you're into that kind of thing.

I think the horses are running at Santa Anita.

Depends on what you want to do and can fit in. Check out these sites for some ideas.

If you are interested in drag racing, the NHRA Museum is in Pomona.
