Probably staged - if he did that at most universities, he would be expelled and in jail. At most if not all US universities, "impersonating a university official" is a major offense and a crime.
As a practical matter, most students know who their professors are before the first day of class - so most students would realize the first guy was an imposter.--------------------------------------------------

This was a class of mostly freshmen. The majority of freshmen would be lucky to find the classroom, much less know what their professor looks like. Just saying what it was like when I went to college.Comment

It has changed a lot since we were in school - now they check out their profs before the first day of classes.
I used to be able sit in the back of the classroom and chat with the freshman students "incognito" on the first day of classes. I'd ask what they had heard about the prof, and tell them I had heard he was really, really good ;-) They would chuckle a bit when I got up to teach.
Haven't been able to do that for ten years or so - they already know who I am and recognize me.
This year, freshman were wandering around the building the Sunday before classes started, looking for their classrooms and planning out their routes. Not sure if that was really new this year or whether I just hadn't noticed it before. I even had some freshman who had checked out the CMS and had completed their first day assignment.
The college experience has definitely changed a lot.Last edited by woodturner; 09-08-2013, 10:03 AM.--------------------------------------------------
