We have two cars which we park side-by-side in the driveway in front of our detached garage/my shop. Driveway can park 3 cars side-by-side (tightly) but narrows to a single entrance at the street. No street parking is allowed in front of our house but you can on the intersecting street--we live on a corner.

Absolutely no room in the shop for cars. However, when it's snowing, it would be nice to have them inside so there's less to clear off. But then there's that much more driveway to shovel.

It really would have been nice to park at least one car inside before my neighbor's walnut tree fell down. The walnuts dented the c**p out of one of our cars and got one dent in the hood of my new car before it blew down.

Braggart!! One car fits in our 3 car garage.

Mine parks next to the garage. Both used to fit, but got displaced by 1,500 BF of stickered hardwood, 2 table saws, band saw, RAS, router table, new workbench build, lumber storage cart, planer, joiner, a few work tables, etc, etc. The Dixie Chopper has managed to stay in the garage (its market value probably rivals my car, and the replacement cost would be higher.

I'm watching CL for some framing lumber deals to show up--time to build a shed to store rough-cut and the tractor!!

        Cars in garage????? Nah.....

Cars 1 & 2 are in the driveway.

Car 3 (unsolicited high mileage gift to my unlicensed teenage son, from mother-in-law) is in complex guest parking (I move it once a week to keep the association president off my back).

        What's in the garage?

Well - there's my woodworking equipment in one bay --- and about a half dozen bicycles (this is Colorado - bicycles often cost more than cars around here) in the other bay. AND --- since those 2-wheeled monsters are SO precious - they get moved out whenever I work on a project.

I used to have my own personal 2-wheeled monster (a BMW R-1200 CLC) --- but a curse called "tuition" ate that up.

My car goes in the garage, the other car is in the driveway. If the kids ever have a car it goes on the street.

I just remarried less than 3 weeks ago which has created some parking changes. I used to park my SUV (Suzuki) and convertible (BMW) in the upstairs garage (basement garage is for tools, of course). I moved the SUV to the lower driveway in front of the boat. I can still get it in and out if my step daughter will pull her car far enough forward on that driveway - this morning I had to move it a bit. The upstairs garage is now for my BMW convertible and my wifes BMW convertible. They are nearly identical but neither of us wants to give up theirs. She also has a pickup we plan to sell at her lake house. Also at the lake house is her harley. As soon as this weekend, (when the new cover arrives) the boat will get moved to the lake house and the Harley can go under the screen porch at the house with the SUV. Then the Harley can get cleaned and sold (it hasn't been ridden in a couple years).

When step daughter number 2 is home for the summer I'm not sure where we'll put her car. Probably either on the lower drive or on the street.

A few of these choices could be the same:

                      Somewhere on a straight driveway
At the side of the house
The driveway in the front (or does that mean across the front?)

In any case, I park my van somewhere along my straight driveway, usually at the side of the house, closer to the front (where it protects the side door from being blocked [I'm very defensive]). So I picked "Somewhere on a straight driveway.

My garage is in the back corner of the lot, reached by a straight driveway running along the side of the house. I rarely drive the Miata, and that's kept in the garage.

What's a "Swale"... I have never heard the term?

Swales are the land sections in front of the residence, next to the street. That area is usually within the easement for the property. It could be flat, or depressed (lower than grade) for water management.

My interpretation is that the term "swale" references that area by the street. I guess it could be a deep one, shallow, or flat.
