Didn't think the first post would be a good hit. The top cross bar is romoveable and the dado will hold a piece of 3/4 ply.

Still working on how to add a 45 degree deflector plate. Thinking 3/16" sheet of steel plate attached to a piece of 3/4" ply should be sufficient to deflect anything I have, including my 30/30.

Looking forward to getting the ply in place and see how rusty I am with a .45!

          From "The High Road"

Range backstop armor may have the following specs.

          .22 S/LR 1/4" @ 45° 3/16" 3/16" @ 30°

          .38 wadcutter 3/8" @ 45° 1/4" 1/4" @ 30°

          .45 1/2" @ 45° 3/8" 3/8" @ 30°

          5.56mm (M193) 5/8" steel plate 3/8" 3/8" @ 30°

          w/8" reinforced

          concrete

5.56mm (M855) 1" hardened steel armor plate 1" armor plate

          plate permanently @ 30°

          affixed to backstop

          w/1" armor plate facing

As a fellow shooter I'd go with a slightly thicker piece just to be on the safe side, nice stand tho, where ya gonna go shoot? BTW, My Mosin will put rounds thru both sides of your green propane tank at 100 yrds

I live outside the city limits and can set it up in my back yard. My place backs up to the RR tracks so I have a natural 8-10' berm in place.

It looked similar to some I've seen before, and, it was the only thing I could think of. If 3/16" is all you have readily available you could always add another layer if needed. It looks like a fun project to use. One of the things I miss now that I live in town is having the freedom to do certain things causevyou know it won't disturb the neighbors.

Pappy, On adding the steel plate could you not have it welded to a piece of 1/2 inch steel pipe and then use pipe clamps mounted to the 2 x 4 studs on the sides allowing you to set the angle with a support of some sort at the bottom perhaps to get your 45 degree angle with maybe a hinge mounted support system on both sides.

Hey Tom, I'm a little thick. Please explain how you would read this chart - not each line of course. I see that (as .45 for example) 1/2" thick steel @ a 45* angle. But what's up with what follows? Why 3/8" twice? I could see that it would be 3/8" thick steel @ 30* angle (because it's steeper than 45*). That leaves one extra 3/8" in the middle.
                  Blessings,
                  Chiz

Probably a fat finger or misprint is the way I interpeted it,I'm sure you get away with a single sheet of steel
