                  The navy nuclear power program involves a 6 year commitment.

                  He'll extend for 2 additional years (8 yrs) to secure a re-enlistment bonus. No idea what happens after that.

                  He was encouraged to apply to the academy by his superiors ---- but he can't afford it, right now. (grumble)

                  The nuclear power program is one of the Navy's toughest (and one of the toughest in all of the military). These are the kids that run nuclear reactors - used to generate power for the sub or carrier. There's simply not a lot of room for error when you run a reactor. Less than half of the individuals initially recruited for the program will make it as far as he has.

                      My dad took this photo ----- I'm in Colorado --- as I just got back from Dubai.

                      My wife and daughter attended, though.
