    Bomb Sight

No. it's not some new video game, but a very interesting web page that has mapped where every bomb fell in the London England area during WWII. The scary part was seeing just how close some bombs feel to the house where my dad grew up and was living with his mother at the time. There were a few close to where my mums family lived but nothing like the block away from my dad!

Wow, that really is a staggering amount of bombing over a years period... You read in the history books and see some footage of the burning buildings and streets, but to see an aggregate like that puts it into a different perspective.

I was born in England in 1943. We lived in London, but I was born in Oxfordshire, as all pregnant women were taken out of London to birthing hospitals. My mother told of two occasions that we were bombed out of our homes. Once we had to be taken out of the third story on firemen's ladders, as the staircase was blown off.

As small boy, I played in the cricket field, behind our flat, in Southgate. A buzz bomb hit there during the war. We kids would collect shrapnel around the field. We emigrated in 1951. Whilst undergoing the process at the US embassy, we made many trips to central London. Even then, there were many bombsite ruins, throughout the city.
